    PSU with detachable wires.

Hi there. I'm curretly looking at buying a new power supply and I like the idea of being able to detach the power leads that are not in use just to make my computer look less cluttered really. I'm thinking about getting one round about 450+ watts as I'm thinking about upgrading to a 64 bit system in the not too distant future.

I don't know too much about computers but I hear that Antec are a good make and they have one called the neo power. I've seen an advert for one by hiper as well. I like this one because the wires look neater being a single cable as opposed to many thiner wires.

Are there any good/bad points about the two that I have mentioned. Which one would you recomend and are there any others that you would recomend?

    Thanks,
    Beninio

ps I'm not really into over clocking or side panels that let you see glow-in-the-dark gubbins.

Does psu's with detachable parts affect overclocking potential? I think i read that somewhere, can't remember exactly.

Thinking of getting the 480w Tagan EasyCon http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=241236

    or

    485W Enermax Noisetaker EG495AX http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=143949

    What do you think?

Also the Hiper Type R series have disconnectable wires, look for the 580W version (i think most of em have em) and cost around £63

Tagan EasyCon 580 I can vouch for, likewise the OCZ Modstream (they're made by the same company I believe and near as I can tell the only difference is cosmetic between these two supplies).

Drawbacks? Well strictly speaking you should keep your wires short and intact to limit RFI (long runs of any cable will act as an aeriel). Modular designs will increase electrical resistance and if you believe PC Power & Cooling, modular plugs 'utilize delicate pins that can easily loosen, corrode, and burn, creating the potential for a major system failure'.

Of course, anyone who's used a standard Molex pin wil have had a problem with loose, unresponsive and tarnished metal pins from time to time and I disapprove of such scaremongering tactics.

My money's on the Tagan simply because you have SLi out of the box which you won't have with the OCZ though be warned: it can get pretty cramped with all those ferrite cores in one place

I have heard only good things about the Antec Neo-power psu. I would've got one myself if I hadn't already spent about £90 on an Antec True-Control. They are fairly silent too.
