Recommend RAM for SN41g2 with XP 3000

    Hi there

I've got a SN41g2 and am upgrading it with an XP 3000.

It's got an ATI 9000 AGP card in it.

At present I've got 1gb of Generic PC2700 DDR RAM in it.

Anyone suggest new RAM that would provide a decent performance boost?

    Cheers

The only way you'll get a performance boost with new ram is if you're planning on overclocking (I presume you already know this). XP3000s are on a 166mhz bus I think.

If you want good ram then you'd probably best go corsair or geil. With the SN41G2 it really does just come down to luck though - I've only had 1 stick of ram out of about 5 that I've tried that will do anything over 166mhz cas 2 and that was a stick with winbond bh-5 chips on. That was happy up to 195mhz 5-2-2-2.

It's basically got the nforce 2 ultra board which supports 400mhz fsb and allows for voltage tweakings, mulitplier adjustments etc - much better for overclocking and stability but I chose not to get one simply cos it's so ugly.

Personal thing but the SN41G2 wins by roughly 2 million miles when it comes to looks imo.

That's not what u said when you first bought the SN41.

Anyway as u know I've got it sitting on the floor in front of me at the mo with xp pro and everything else installed and I'm wondering whether to keep it instead of giving it to my mum.

I reckon I might be better giving my ma one of my P4 towers!!!!

P.s. A half gig of Twinmos winbond 333 is good for me

well i got to thinking.....there must be another way to waste money an getting a 5% increase out of my net browsing software.

Especially asI'm happily browsing on a 533Mhz Epia with less power than my microwave.

If anyone can find a way to spend money in the quest of a 5% uplift you can. You're da man

As u know I've got P4800C deluxe and an Abit IC7-G containing C grade top end P4s and yet I spend my life on a wireless P2-266 IBM laptop.

    What's it all about (Alfie)?
