More speed... (upgrade q?)

Well,

I've got an XP2400, KT266a motherboard, 256mb of Ram, and a WD400JB (40gb WD SE 7,200rpm 8mb cache)...

I think the CPU speed is quick enough, and the hard drive is pretty quick too, I'm thinking of upgrading the RAM (as it's probably the cheapest way to get more speed?), would this make much difference?

running windows XP, 512mb is a very noticable upgrade (from 256 or less)

i'm running windows 2000.
can ddr 333 / 400 be run in a ddr 266 system?

and if i get ddr333 ram, (eg 256mb stick), will it work (running at 266) with my current 256mb 266 ram?

If you put DDR 400 in with DDR 266 the stick of 400 will normally just knock it's self down to DDR 266 speed.

Ye ddr400 will down to 266 cause it does it when you run tbreds @ 266fsb

you would see a big diffrence getting something like a nforce2 and 512 ddr 2700
