    Just Ordered: Sony VAIO VGN-S5XP/B

Any thoughts on this laptop guys? I've found '0' reviews on this laptop, however I did check out the S3XP today and was quite impressed (another chap brought it into the lecture).

So I'm sure you're going "So what's this Mac peon wanting a windows laptop for?" - Simple, I plan to dual boot Ubuntu and XP Pro, also cost £1500!

The unit I ordered was listed as "Sony Vaio S5XP/B Centrino 760 1GB 100GB DVD+/-DL 13.3", so I'll probably partition it:

    45GB NTFS Windows XP Prof.
    45GB EXT3 Ubuntu
    5GB FAT32 (neutral ground).
(~5GB lost due to 1024KB per MB)

Looking forward to having this delivered shortly

Nice, I've got an older S2XP and absolutely love it, the screen is absolutely amazing. Even plays most games reasonably well although that does tend to hammer battery life somewhat.

    Enjoy!

I've been using it for the past day, got most of my code done now (yay!). Yea I must say it is fantastic. I've put XP in the old theme (win 98 look) and I think I'll be able to manage quite well.

Battery life is pretty good once you tweak it a bit but have yet to try Wifi. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this and may load Ubuntu on it (Along with windows) at some point.

Great out-of-the-box experience I must say and I like how the package wasn't full of useless junk, well done Sony on a nicely designed packed.

Hi, what is the general performance like on the S5XP? I am particulary interested in the hard disk access speed? I am thinking of getting one of these.

I'm just about to buy an S5XP but I have 2 questions:

    1. Is the ethernet speed 10/100 Mbs or does it go up to gigabit speed??

    2. Is the power socket on the left, right or rear of the laptop??

    Thanks

Ohh, for PIC programming. It has 2 apps only (haha) MSN and MPLab. I think I used it alot more than my Mac last semester getting the code to work. Will be selling the VAIO off this April once the project is over!
