    Digital Surround Sound setup...

    Hello...

I have an Audigy 2 ZS, and i'm expecting a Logitech Z-5500 for xmas. In order to get true digital surround from this combination, what cable(s) do I need to buy. I thought it would be a case for everything is included, but from reading the manuals it aint. However they are not clear on what cable is needed. This concerns me, because this combination of speaker and soundcard is arguably one of the best.

Could someone please enlighten me asap, so that come xmas day, im not listening to the annoying hiss that comes with analogue surround.

    Cheers

You need to get an optical cable to go from the optical out on your Audigy to the Optical In on you speakers. Check to see if your speakers actually have an optical input first

    Sigh...

That is not what I need. A typical opctical cable don't work. If you did your homework, you would see that the Audigy 2 ZS doesnt have an optical in. Hence me here asking if anyone has this setup and also what is the correct cable needed to acheive true digital surround, and not anologue surround. Thanks for your input though

IIRC the audigi 2 ZS uses digital out via a mini jack.

the Z-5500's take digital input via optical or coax, of which you currenly do not have. You will need a mini (3.5mm) jack to coaxial adapter (cost about £1, head down to maplins), you can then use a digi coaxial cable to send the signal to your logitech speakers - otherwise you will need an audigi platinum which has optical and coax outputs.

friend of mine has the Z-5500's. Not bad little speakers, although not very well balanced. Watch out for the sub, its quite relentless and will cause structural damage!

    Think you need
Mono 3.5mm jack plug to phono, rca socket adapter
A mono 3.5mm jack male plug to phono, rca female socket coupler.

    Larger picture AA2196 £0.56 ( £0.48 excl. VAT)
    53 in stock

    and

phono plug to plug, video cable, 1.2M

Single phono, rca male plug to phono male plug using video quality single cored screened lead.

AA1374 phono plug to plug, video cable, 1.2M £1.06 ( £0.90 excl. VAT)

I cant tell exactly what the speaker input is, assume its rca, maplins probably sell both these cables. Its tidier if everything is mono.

Or try this cable with the adapter LINKY

The above (I made my cable) works for my teac 5.1s.

Flibb, cheers for the info. I went to maplins and bought both those products. Its a shame that it isnt made clear on Creatives side what prequisites are needed to use the digital capabilities of this card.

Problem is there are so many different ways of connecting stuff. Think creative do an adapter cable that turns the coaxial digital output in to an optical (toslink possibly).
