    Pqi Ram

I was wondering if PQI RAM was any good. I need a 512mb stick to last me a few months until I can afford a good 2gb Dual-Channel kit.

I've got an Opteron 146 with an Asrock DualSata939 board. I want to overclock it to ~2.5ghz (CABNE 0544 EPMW) and am wondering a PQI 512MB DDR400 CL2.5 16CHIP stick would be ok for this. I'd buy the Corsair ValueSelect from Scan but they don't open until January 3rd now and I need the RAM asap.

**disclaimer I do not have an AMD64 system I could be wrong**

From what I have read on websites and forums overclocking an AMD64 CPU does not mean you have to overclock the memory, you just been to select a different 'memory divider' or 'ran ratio'.

Page 4 of the link below should help it's about Athlon X2 Overclocking but the same stuff should apply to your CPU.

I've been looking at A64 overclocking and didn't really understand the memory divider bit. Will running my memory at stock speeds affect my overclock at all?

edit: I can get some Twinmos ram for the same price. After looking around, it seems like it is BH-5. Would this be a better bet?

the memory divider will make your ram slower than your f.s.b. which is what you overclock. The ram will normally run in a 1:1 ratio with the f.s.b. at 200mHz you can set a divider so that the memory runs slower i.e. 166 or 133 mHz at a deafault f.s.b. when you up the f.s.b. the memory speed also rises but if you use the divider not at such a high rate and from a lower value. That means you can get your overclock without increasing your memory above the garanteeded 200 mHz. [As the memory is DDR you can double the frequencies to give the effective speed.]

Hope that is clear and helps [it probably failed on both counts]

It did help. Thanks. Do you know if PQI or TwinMOS are a better option? Should I use a divider that gets my RAM as close to 200mhz as possible when I find the CPU max?

I'll go with TwinMos if it's BH-5, cause part from BH-5, CH-6 and TCCD i havent came across a chip that can do 250Mhz with DDR400 rating. And yeah the closer you get to 200Mhz the better (obvious, no?) And hey if you got a CABNE it shouldnt run @ 2.5, push it roung 2.8 or try 3.0

I'll go for the TwinMos then. My motherboard seems to be stable at 274HTT at max so 2.8 or 3ghz might be out of reach for me unless I can get the OCW Beta2 BIOS to be stable at higher HTT.

I got the TwinMos and I'm impressed with it. It's completely stable at 245mhz. Tried SuperPI, prime95 and memtest on it. Not bad for £26
