Weird overclocking phenomenon-ononon

Decided to OC my PC a bit and took it to 3gig by just upping the FSB and running the RAM at 5:4 for now (P4 2.6C) and it ran happily at this except for one weird thing -

I lose one of my HDD's


The 2 IDE ports work fine but the drive on the SATA port just dissapears.... If I turn the CPU back down then the drive reappears


Anyone got any thoughts ??



BTW, I took it to 3.25gig and it was pretty unstable altho I think this is due to memory timings etc as it loaded to windows ok but only after I upped the CPU voltage to 1.575 from 1.525.... I'd be happy to get the HDD problem fixed first tho LOL

The HDD controller overheating?! That is quite odd, all i can think of is the HDD controller getting too hot from overclocking or not being able to handle the speed the bus is running at.

I'd imagine it's where the SATA's operating speed is derived from. Your PCI and AGP should be locked (33 & 66mhz) and that's likely to be where it's derived from. It would seem running the FSB out of spec also results in the SATA running out of spec which it clearly doesn't like. Maybe try new drivers, BIOS etc?

I have NO idea

I'll see what its set at when CPU is at standard and lock it to that if its not....

Sorted.... I locked the AGP/PCI at the standard (66/33 IIRC but not sure) and its sitting here at 3.03gig with NO other mods other than locking PCI/AGP and chaning memory to 5:4

No volts increase
CPU temp = 42.5
