ok i have a maxtor ata 120gb hdd which seams to make a load of noise when its seeking and reading and at that time my pc seam to lag a bit now im wondering should i buy a 36gb raptor and a 120 gb sata hdd put them into a raid, will that make opening programs such as cs:s and dod:s or would getting another 1gb ram. if u say the ram i alrdy have 2 x512 mb sticks would i loose performance filling up all 4 slots?
as far as the ram in concered, as long as u get excatly the same pair of 2x512 sticks and have 4 free dimms on ur motherbaord then u can still achieve "dual channel" which means no performance will be lost by an increase of ram...however for the games you play 2 gigs of ram doesnt look like it make much differnce becuase you are not having to load huge maps...
this hdd is starting to pee me off it runs fine for an hour then it makes lots of noise and thing sstart lagging up or taking long to load, should i replace it ?

so would it be the hdd thats slowing down my system as in loading programs and programs lagging?
yeah it sounds like that your problem, backup everything and reinstall windows, if still the same problem then yeah its your hardrive.....does it make a "kerlplunk" sound now and again?
kerplunk as in= windows stalls heavely and massive werring sound comming from harddrive
Sounds somewhat like a clicking sound every couple of seconds randomly? If so, Back up as soon as you can, mines doing it too, backed everything up and waiting for it to go to HDD heaven before sending it back.

Ignore that man. 2T isn't such a big deal (like 2-3%, that's 58-59 FPS vs 60). But atm 2Gb only gives a benefit in some very specific programs (like Photoshop) or games (like FEAR and BF2).
It may not be a hardware problem. With my previous installation, various Norton Antivirus/Internet processes used to hog the cpu, as did cisvc.exe (part of the indexing system which seems to go nutty sometimes).
Having said that, it does sound like your hard drive is on the way out and now would be a good time to back up and get a new drive (or replace the old one under warranty).
