It would appear that you have had 188 views on this thread, all from AMD fanboys

As an AMD user myself, I can only say that I have never been disappointed with an Asus motherboard, and your original suggestion seems in the right price range.

Can also vouch for Asus mobos. Pretty well made, good features. I find them more reliable over longer periods then Abit, MSI, etc.

As for the Intel/AMD thing......it isn't surprising as there probably aren't many people here who use Intel due to the nature of these forums: People ask for advice for their new system, get told to buy AMD and they do. Ergo, not many Intel-heads about.

But then, theres no smoke without fire

    Thanks for all your replys.

I will probably end up going ahead with that motherboard that I originally chose, unless someone has a better idea.

I think most people on here are inclined to use AMD as its sort of "the gamers choice", over intel, however intel is probably going to be the "server admins choice".

But obviously i'm not looking for a high end spec server, or a gaming system, just hardware advise.

Thanks again, I think i'll be actually buying this system this week.

I am sorry to interrupt. Anyone has using DFI PT880 socket 478 mobo? I want to buy it for my old northwood system. Is it a good overclocker or in other word is it has SRC/AGP/PCI frequency lock?

Yeah, right. I bought 2 rackmount dual Xeon boxes last year. Intel procs, mobo, chassis and PSU (triple 650W), U320 RAID etc. All Intel.

Left them overnight plugged in but switched off. Came in the next morning to a burning smell and PSU's too hot to touch. The standby draw on the things was too much for the system with the fans off. Real quality engineering!

Next box was a dual dual-core opteron - cost about the same and flogs the pants of the Intel box.
Errr.... You're blaming a PSU problem on Intel? Blame the OEM who supplied you with crap servers. Opteron servers would have the same problem with the same PSUs.
