    Athlon XP Rubber 'Feet'

i've just built a system for a mate, and its an athlon XP 2700 on a asrock motherboard. He says that when he is ripping cds with itunes the system reboots. I noticed that when I attached the HSF to the CPU i noticed it was slightly loose, and the 4 rubber feet had worn down (i think a bit of them was stuck to the previous HSF I used!) The temps seem a bit high (around 50-55 degrees under load). Has anyone had any experience of this happening? Can you replace the rubber feet?

I think all the rubber feet are there for is to stop the hsf crushing the core, ripping should not use 100% cpu so could something else be the cause? Try running prime 95 on torture test, if this doesn't cause a restart look at other things. If it does try removing the hsf cleaning both hsf and cpu reapply tim and reseat.

The pads won't stop a core from crushing, they're there just to make sure the sink is sat level to ensure all the core is covered = maximum heat dissipation. A shim however, will prevent the core from crushing.
