    as far as i know it has a fan, but i cannot be sure, this is the board that i have and it certainly isn't noticeable if it does have a fan. I didn't build the system so i can't say for sure whether it has a fan or not. The most noticeable noise from my system is either the cpu HSF or the Gfx card HSF. Thats not to say i have a loud system though.

    This has now been resolved with the A8N-SLI deluxe. Asus replaced the fan design ages ago with newer better fans and you can see the picture of this @ the link below ;

    As such, the A8N-SLI deluxe no longer has fan failing issues

    Wanted SLI and decided to also pay the little extra for the heatpipe instead of the fan to keep the noise down a little. I don't think a motherboard is something that should be skimped on, and if a decent one is bought now, it will make it less troublesome to upgrade in the future (because less indecision about whether to upgrade the mobo, as it hopefully won't be needed!).

    Once the spec is solid, I'll do some price shopping and see what best prices I can get.

    Really appreciate the comments, as usual

    I had the ASUS SLi-Premium - it was OK, but for some reason it died. I finally got an RMA unit, but saw a lot of people have had the same problem - fans jiggle then nothing, no post, no beeps nothing.

    Also that heat pipe gets REALLY hot. I replaced mine with a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR and have absolutely no compliants. The only thing which could be changed is the NF4 chipset fan, which can be a bit whiney, but I'm going to replace that with a waterblock anyway.

    Just my 2p.

    You can't go wrong with the DFi.
