memory upgrade, help me please!!

As you may have guessed from the title i want to upgrade my memory to 2gb
I already have 1gb(2x512mb) of corsair value select.

would it be better to buy 1 stick of 1gb, with the option of upgrading in the future....
or 2 sticks of 512gb

I only have £50 to spend.

Thanks

I take it you're your rig is an 64 3200+ running at 2.6Ghz? You'll be wanting dual channel ...I'd consider selling your current memory (for about £40) and swopping it 2 x 1Gb sticks

This will cost you an extra £18 over buying an extra 2x512 pair ....but is more useful for future upgrades and will allow you to run T1 mode ...which I'm lead to believe is more responsive and will improve system performance.

having said that, id try to stay away from 'value' ram of any sort.

yes, you do want 2gb, its good, but you want to be able to have the option to try to run the ram 1:1.

i would suggest and ocz/mushkin 2gb kits, they make some really good memory. also consider geil for brilliant results. i unfortunately only have 1gb, but its mushkin l2v2, meaning its tccd meaning i can run 275 2.5-3-3-8!
thats why you want it!

thanks guys. 1 thing i forgot to mention; i cant have any downtime longer than about an hour for the pc as i need to do work on it. so hows this for a plan:
buy 1 1gb stick and install
sell my 2x512
wait for money to magicaly apear
buy secong 1gb stick,
it would work out more expensive but i cant see any other way to upgrade with no downtime
