    50pin SCSI DVDRW drive?

Does anyone know where / if I can buy a 50pin SCSI DVDRW drive? It's for an old compaq server without IDE on it. I've given them the possibility of having an IDE card in there, but they're insistent it has to be a SCSI one or nothing.

I've checked all our regular suppliers and can't find anything. Needs to be a proper company, as I'll be buying it through our company, so private or ebay won't be suitable

Just wondering, could you not put a usb2 card and attach an external one?, failing that Panasonic used to make a DVD-RAM drive that was SCSI, but not sure if it does standard disks or jus DVD-RAMs,

Nope - thats not an option either. IDE would have made more sense, but no, it has to be SCSI.

I'll look into the panasonic drive though, thanks.

Get a SCSI to IDE convertor - been the way for the past few years. And why would you want RW on a server?? CD writing has got to be one of the least stable things out there!!!! Though could be useful for backups I guess.

I'll have a look around. I have no idea why they want a DVDRW on a server, but if that's what they want, they can have one. I'm not supporting it so I don't care

You know what - I'm half tempted to say that it's not going to work - even though those convertors do exist, god knows what compatibility or configuration issues they're going to come across.

    Cheers anyway

Spookily enough, the first time I ever saw a SCSI to IDE convertor for sale... was on the scan website.

I don't think many companies make SCSI CD/DVD drives anymore, certainly not as many as used to.
