    Noob Sata drive question

I will shortly be purchasing a SATA drive. Now can I just connect the drive to the motherboard using a SATA cable or do I need a power connection from the PSU to the drive? If so is that a molex connection?
The reason I ask is that I want to order all the bits I need in one go and not find out that I need more stuff when the drive turns up.
    Thanks.

the drive requires power, dependant on the make and model it may have a normal molex power connector. otherwise you can get adapters to connect the new type

Yeh, I use a moelx for my drive and then the cable to the mobo. But why is there a flat headed cable for the HDD as well? Could I connect the HDD to the PSU with this?

Sata drives come with a slim power connector on the back; usually with a sata equipped motherboard you get a couple of molex to sata connector/adaptors.
