Best GPU for 100£?

well the title says everything have 100 for a GPU, any ideas? no slim or crossfire needed.

also my mate needs a cheap quiet cooler for the old 478 socket, managed to get him an used one but my washing machine makes less noise , couldnt even find nothing about it on google the brand name is Dr. Cooler anyone heard about it before?

Check out the current Custom PC (Issue 33 June 2006) - they have done a very thourough review and comparisson of EVERY GPU - a complete buying guide from ATI Radion 9800 Pro to X1900XTX and GeForce FX to 7900 GTX - a 24 page guide.

You won't get great for £100 - new you will be looking at X800GT, X800GTO or X800XL, or spend a bit more for a 7600GT , or second hand you would be able to do better.

Cheers i had a look at custom PC didnt find the issue u said but saw some other nice stuff.

well about the 7600GT GPU i am sure 35£ difference wont break my bank but i dont know if its wise to buy since i am gonna use it with an old system ( P4 3.06 socket478 and 1gb value ram 2700 ) will i take full advantage from this card?

i have checked the XFX 7600GS XT card about 100£ in scan for what i can see it just have slower Graphics Core and memory clock and no active Cooling (fan).
this card or even maybe one of the previous Nv 6xxxx series will be more adequate for my system what do u think?

Assuming that your system will be PCI-E, if you intend to be doing anything involving 3D such as gaming, then the difference will be worth it. A 3GHz P4 and a gig of RAM is still a relatively adequate system. What motherboard is it going in?

I run a 7800GS AGP with a 3.2ghz p4 (Northwood) and 1gb corsair 3200 and it flies so a 7600 you will do alright with

still deciding about the motherboard but i am 90% sure it will be the Asus P4V800D-X

only 29£ in ebuyer with Sata, PCI-E, Dual-Channel DDR400 and all the other asus crap.

The only negatives of this board (that i can see)
no DDR2 but normal issue with my socket , only 3 PCI but who cares??? USB 2.0 rulles, the floppy connection is near the pci slots so your cable would have to b 1m long but again who cares for floppy?

So for the price i can get a cheap s478 board PCI-E ready till i change the chip.

But i am still open for sugestions nichomach?

It really does look like the best option. £29 is a good price for a motherboard that you're essentially only looking at as a temporary until you change processors. It ticks all the boxes, and the choice of S478 boards is thin and getting thinner. If it were me, I'd have it.

Quake 4, Doom 3, HL2 CS:S Eve Online is the main stock atm, was playing Oblivion to, all with AA and AS turned right up and the frame rates are still in the 50's - 60's which is great considering the level of as and aa running

Im also looking for a new GPU, AGP about £120 tops really, any one got any recommended cards?
