    opteron temperature?

Just put together an opteron 146 and msi neo2 combo. The chip was a retail pib. The idle temp is 43C degrees and a sandra burn in had a 50C max, that's on stock timing and Vcore. I was looking around before I bought the cpu and saw people reporting temps 10 degrees or so less, I think my XP2000 was less than that. I wondered what others with a stock heatsink are running?

That temp is very high - had a msi neo2 previous to this dfi and although never had the stock cooler on it my Big TT was 23c idle with settings at stock..

I'd recommend checking the paste (maybe try as5) and also the seating.

Whats your case cooling like...? Have you tried it with an open case? Whats your ambient temp like?

The sensor on the neo2 is not exactly the best, it can vary from board to board and bios to bios.

But going on the figures, 43c is very high for stock

What is your stock vcore, should be 1.35/1.40

I've also got an Asus A8N Sli. When overclocked I get 39c under load and 29c Idle. I also use Thermaltake Big Typhoon.

    Room Temp 25c

Case is an old DEC server case[quite spacious]. The case has more fans than you can shake a stick at but I have only ever used one of them, I ran one fan to blow across between the scsi and graphics card, that was a long time ago and it's not on at the mo. The sides are off the case. System temp was shown as 23 degrees when it was showing 49-50 under load, at the moment the temps are 43/28.. Vcore is 1.4V. Ambient is around 20.

I just put an arctic freezer pro in my basket, shall I hit checkout?

Just for comparison I'm running an opteron 144 with the stock heatsink on an asus a8n-sli and with 1.52v vcore I get about 39c idle, 52c load.

Your temps are a little on the high side for stock Vcore, but not too bad. Could be that the mobo sensors aren't displaying the correct temperatures, or possibly bad contact between heatsink and CPU, or too much/too little thermal compound.

Your idle temp is far too high it should be in the low 30's really. Are you using the thermal pad on the heatsink or some Artic silver?

I'm using the stock cooler with an Asrock DualSata2 and get idle temps of 35c and load temps of 39c. This is clocked at 2.6ghz and stock vcore.

I find all the opties i have played with to run hotter than i expected. Is the heatsink hot when doing a burn in? If your goint to be clocking then just buy that freezer itll work out better in the long run.
