sparky191@ you could well be right, and with corperate pcs, where:

[]you probably have support staff on call
[]there are psus that can quickly be swopped in
[]files SHOULD be backed up onto network file servers
[]there are lots of pcs so a small difference in ££ means a lot
    []power supply will be good

    i would agree.

but my antec aint coming out of my coolermaster so for me its an investment.

oh and i'm student accomodation, a 300 year old building (seriously!) with most likely dodgy power supply / surges / spikes.

i'm going to pay £20 more for peace of mind and a better OC

Whats a corporate pc when its at home? The majority of PC's EVERYWHERE home/office/college are built by people like Dell, IBM etc. Where they aren't using highpowered PSU's. Only a tiny minority are built from components where specialist PSU's are used. If it was causing a problem for them you'd have heard about it by now. In fact I'd say the OEM PSU's are tested better than the specialist PSU's simply because they have bigger resources to do so. Perhaps thats why you don't see that many failures.

That said I've had a whole bunch of PSU's over the years mainly in the search for quiet ones.

This is what annoys me when people blame the PSU for problems all the time. Usually it isn't. Now, if you have 4 hard drives (cough, me, cough) and a LOT of hardware, you can start looking to a lack of power being an issue.

As long as the voltages are within spec you're usually OK with a PSU.

I guess I'm lucky. (Touch wood) I haven't had any components killed as a result of bad PSUs yet. I bought a 400W one from Ebuyer a while back and about 2 days later it just died. Loud spark sound and the PC turned off. Didn't kill any of my components. RMA'ed it to Ebuyer pretty quickly.

My 350W generic one I'm using now is lasting fine, has good voltage rails, etc.
