    Keyboard issue - strange!

    Hi all,

Im having a few 'issues' with my keyboard atm, as my family decided to 1) nick it and 2) plug it back in incorrectly while i was out!

It seems to intermittant however, where it may not respond (at all) although the lights flash on startup. If i plug it in/out while tht system is on (I know this is usually a bad idea ) it may start working, however, for example holding a key down such as "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" will be a hell of a lot slower than usual
As i say, its intermittant so it works sometimes on not others, and the rest of the time its got the issue above :/

    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated

(+, when it is working correctly, reconnecting it while the system is on causes the slow down issue when holding a key down, no idea if its ment to do this or not!)

The keyboard is some cheap thing, and its connected via PS2. I have tried a differnt keyboard however with similar issues

the slow SSSSSS sounds like a repeat-rate issue (try checking control panel->keyboard)

first off you should never unplug/plug a PS2 device whilst the computer is switched on. You do that and your going to have a bad time.

hopefully thou, most computers now have polyressetable fuses on the power lines for these so its not such a big problem. So stop hurting your motherborad.

repeat-rate shouldn't get changed by the keyboard been un-plugged. With PS2 its actually the keyboard that controlls the repeat rate, a command is sent to the keyboard via the keyboard controller (which is actually just a serial to parrallel convertor linked to an interupt!) so it can actually be a broken keyboard that causes slow repeat rate but as sourcequench said its unlikely.

Have you tried switching the power off completely, rebooting, does the keyboard work fine in the BIOS?

hmm, if you have tried another one it sounds like it isnt the keyboard.
