    Conroe release date????

Hi all, i am hoping to put together a new system soon and was planinng on a s939 system but now i have read that conroe will be out soon. The only problem is that i keep reading conflicting reports on google. Some places list it as appearing ins september/october whilst others have it being released towards the end of july. Does anyone know an exact release date for conroe in the UK??? Also are prices going to be fairly competitive? or should i just get a s939 system and then get a conroe m'board and cpu in 6 months time? I was looking to spend around £500 - £600 on the s939 (excluding monitor) so would a conroe gaming system be around this price? (i.e. 1 or more gigs of ram, 7900gt etc - if i go the s939 route was going to go for a 3700+)

    Cheers

24th July for the first shipments, expect waiting if you leave pre-ordering too long.

The Conroe launch date will be July 24 but some retails will get before that date. I recommend you to wait to at least until beggining of August. We wil have enough Motherboards and the price around 150£ for enthusiastic people and we will be able to choose and conroe will be around if we speak about entry series that outperforms even a FX-60 for mere 180£ for a conroe 6400 not bad at all

The best think is forget about AMD with their 90 nm and get a new 65 nm

Wait for www.scan.co.uk for the best price it should be around 220£ so it is 30£ less than if you pre-order in others shops.

The E6600 is the sweetspot at £250. It's the mid-range with 4mb of cache, makes a massive difference in performance.

I do not believe that, 14 is too early.

I want to get the system working with the 590 Intel Edition board.

Do you have anything to substantiate that?.. most news sites and retailers are showing the 24th as the release date.

I'd be weiry of what theinquirer 'reports', especially when they talk about Intel.

We will know for sure in the next 2 - 3 weeks anyway.

How important do you reakon its going to be to pre order?

Or is waiting for Scan going to be a better bet?

I'd say it's very important to pre-order for places that allow for pre-orders.. Scan will get them sooner or later, but these chips are in red hot demand and they aren't even on the market yet.

I think Intel are onto a winner with Conroe. Ive heard mention that Intel are hoarding stock so that it can meet demand but it is probably not true. Still only time will tell

Intel apparently is doing a new stepping to fix a few things & the chipsets look to have RAID problems ...
Plus whilst it's good at somethings it's not so clever at others apparently (like most CPUs).

Matrix RAID (and practically all onboard RAID) is just an overglorified SATA controller with a BIOS slapped on it, it's a bit hard to botch RAID circuts that aren't even there.

But yea, I'm gonna leave a new system build until about May, next year when all the little kinks have been ironed out.
