If it's a retail CPU then you're voiding the warrenty just by using a different heatsink-fan.
The heatspreader on the CPU is nickel plated copper - but there's really no need to go as extreme as 'liquid metal' - ceramic paste is more than good enough for conroe chips

Don't use the liquid metal - eats through lots of metal - not just Aluminium
I'd very very wary of it as well - that heatsink may have a copper base but there's still lots of aluminium - touch that with this stuff and it's bad news..
