BIOS update from HDD, FDD or DVD?

I'm planning on flashing the BIOS on my Abit NF7-S V2.0 with a simultaneous update of the SiI3112 SATA controller firmware.

Previously, when I used to regularly do BIOS flashes, I used to run from the HDD, as I don't have a floppy drive connected right now and I think the HDD is more reliable that flashing from a floppy.

I'll admit that it's been a while, so I've got a noob question.
Is it a bad idea to do this flash from the HDD because I'm also flashing the SATA harddrive controller?

can't see why it would be a problem, it'll flash, then reboot and load the new BIOS. If teh board supports it you could flash from a USB pendrive or a CD if it makes you feel cosier.

I usually boot from a windows 98 or Me install CD, and swap CDs once the machine is booted into DOS for one I have burned with the new BIOS file on it.

Like killie99 said, you shouldn't experience any problems.

I recently flashed by mobo's bios which happened to contain an update for the SATA RAID controller (on which I have my bootable RAID 0 setup). I updated through Windows, rebooted, saw the updates had been applied, through POST, and carried on as normal.

Thanks for the re-assurance... I'll stick with flashing from the HDD as my source.

I would use HDD over floppy any day

I always flashed my nf7/s from windows, I thought this was regarded as the best way for this series of board

The Abit flashing utility in windows is pretty good.
Even if it fails, you can reflash before rebooting and having a non working system.

Yes I always used flashmenu and flashed it twice, that is run flash and then flash again
