need advice for new core 2 duo system

hey, im looking to buy a custom built system, i was think along the lines of:-

core 2 duo 6600
2gb of ddr2 ram
7950GT graphics card
not sure about motherboard

do you reckon i need the components ive chosen, or do they need to be better, i want the system for gaming. also do you know where would be the cheapest place to buy the system from, thanks for your help

7950GT has just been released i havent read anything about it having issues yet...

This system looks good, for motherboard at the moment I would go check out ASUS P5B Delux WiFi-AP, or ASUS P5W DH Delux or Abit AB9 or Abit AW9D-MAX.

I would also go with ATi X1900XT rather than 7950GT at that price point, but this depends on your monitor. If you plan 1920x1200 you will need a more powerfull GPU for many games, but up to 1680x1050 (if widescreen) should be OK with that GPU. 1280*1024 will rock with that GPU, but 1600*1200 will probably struggle at times, depending on game....

ok thanx, is the ATI card better then the one ive chosen then? i want this spec to last for quite some time, i dont really want to be upgrading in a year or 2. well i dont really have the money im spending some of my student loan but i reckon the rig will cost me about £967 anyone know if i can get this down. i was thinking of buying it from cyberpowersystems.co.uk

To be honest you'd be better buying all the parts from www.scan.co.uk and building it yourself as you'd save a lot of money. If you aren't comfortable with that then I guess that website will be good for you though.

Personally I'd never buy a system built by someone else but I do understand a lot of people don't want to build themselves. Another place you could look is www.dell.co.uk as they have a lot of configureable systems that are suprisingly powerful.

the thing i found with dell is that they have cheap base models but to add a gb of ram they charge £100 which is far to steep

if you can wait, as in have a PC at the moment, you could wait until DX10 hits the scene.

if you can't or dont want one, im sure existing DX9 cards will have a price reduction. I wish I could have but i didn't have a system for 2 months (my 7 year old athlon 750mhz 128mb ram died - what a pile of crap lol)

ASUS P5W DH Deluxe, was reviewed in CustomPc this month and they give it the best bang for the buck, great overclocking potention great speed and Wireless intergrated... thats a whole lot of kit there.
