You need some pretty good hardware to a get a 144/146 to high clocks. plus theres no reason to buy one now as they aren't much cheaper than a 4000+

146 is about £60 and 4000+ about £70. £10 gives you a higher multi and base speed saves you a lot of clocking.

The san diego cores clock well and to surpass it with a 146 his motherboard will need to hit 270/280 FSB, which not many boards can do.

Getting a 4000+ to similar speed will only need 225/235 FSB, much more realistic for most motherboards. Plus a lot cooler.

I ran my 1.8ghz at 9*250 for a long time, but it did suffer from stability issues(not often, but enough for me to not bother overclocking).

Add to that I'm using 4 sticks of 512mb now, so I cant really stretch it overclocking.

I have to admit, that 4000+ from microdirect looks tempting, anyone know if they do delivery to ireland?

    edit:Scan have a s939 opteron 150 up for £88, any good?
