Motherboard upgrade and raid and XP_OEM

    Hi

After buying the new Flight simX (Very demanding) I have decided I need a MB/CPU/vidcard upgrade from my trusty P4 3.0/MSI 865PE with 2 wd raid drives and 9800pro vid. This raises a couple of issues.

    1. Is the latest Intel 965 chpset raid (ICH?) backward compatable with my 865PE raid.
If not whats the point of raid 1 etc mirrored backups when a MB fail loses all youir data.

    2. Will my Win XP OEM SP2 (I have the original cd) let me change the mb.

    Thanks in advance

To 2 no. You cannot change the mobo unless the previous one has stopped working. Even then you can't use that as an excuse to put an OEM on a whole new system!
    Not around too often!

no you cant just change controllers like that. if one board failed, it would need to be replaced with the same board/controller. iv tried this and it works.

I have changed a MB on my other XP OEM system a couple of years ago when the chipset got cooked. Diddnt need to contact microsoft although I kept the same memory and CPU and used a similar MB. Had to contact Symantec to get NIS to reactivate though.

The XP OEM thing looks like another MS cheat. Surley if you buy software you should be able to install it on any machine as long as you dont copy it. No wonder so many people look on MS as a bunch of bandits and the price too - how many they sell?

The raid thing is interesting. Does that mean all those people who think there data is safely mirrored on a second drive for security are at the mercy of a MB failure.

Yeah ring up M$ if you have any problems, just say your Pc was repaired and all your data is still there, and that you need a new code as it wont activate.
