Unhappy bent pin on ide drive :(

    hey

i have an ide drive (120gb ibm, 7200, 2mb) with a bent pin on the ide connector. its actually fractured (dry jointed) where the pin meets the pcb.

pc finds the drive but does a 1010101010101010..... when the "dmi pool data" screen comes up.

anyway i can retrieve the data on this drive? i don't care about the drive itsefl that much, i would prefer to replace it with a newer wd 120gb 7200 8mb to mstch my primary drive.

if i do, who thinks i should set up the drives in raid0 on the SATA bus?

i thought that, i think i mayt be able to do so - but those pins are very very small and i wanted to make sure there were no other options before risking it.

i just want the data back...

Well, its worth e-mailing support about it, as they may offer to replace the pcb for you so you don't risk the data, or if they say they can't, I'd take it to a electronics type store, to get a pro to attempt the soldering for you.

If you are new to soldering it's best to get someone to do such a fiddly and (relatively) dangerous job (where your data is concerned!) for you. If the data isn't that important and you want to do it yourself, make sure you use a pointed tip on your soldering iron, not your normal half-flat tip....

    where do you live ?
I may be able to help with a team of professional surface mount solderers I have at work.
Wouldn't be able to do it for a couple of weeks though...
