About time to build a new PC

Almost ashamed to say it but feel positively out of date on current technology, i've just a bit of re-reading on the current list of technology on hexus reviews.

So i've got an idea of what i'm after. My current systems are a athlon shuttle 2600xp and a Intel p4c2.4@3gig.

    So i'm looking at a Intel Core Duo2 E6400 system i think.

Looking for advice on motherboard, Memory (2GB), Graphics card and dvd burner. I also need a nice quiet case and PSU.

Budget is about the £900 mark.

The graphics card must be capable of running 1920x1080, BUT i do not need hugely fast fps, i'm a WoW player and don't usually play any FPS games.

    Any thoughts please?
    Cheers

That'll do I reckon. That card is not exactly high end, but still good for the money and it'll cope with HD. If you want a HDMI card, there is a x1650 with HDMI out but it's not as fast as this one.

Well that raises one question, I'm still confused by the memory speed situation on the core duo's, Do they use 667/800/1066 memory, or can they use all?, which gives best performance?.

It is likely the PC won't be overclocked, so please bare this in mind too.

All of the above I believe. I'm no expert, but 667 is fine if you're not bothering to overclock, 800 if you are. 1066 is pointless at the moment. With memory prices at the moment, just get the 667 stuff as it'll be cheaper.

You might consider a better graphics card if you have the cash, but it's probably more sensible to put your spare cash towards a DX10 card in the new year.

I'd get the E6600 if you don't want to overclock. more cache and speed is worth the money IMO.

If you've got the spare cash then yup, the E6600 is obviously better, but at the moment I'd doubt you'd notice a great deal of difference between the two CPUs. Still, if you have the spare cash then it would be the better choice.

Well i took the advice and went with the E6600, looks like the 1950pro's aren't going to be out for a while so i've gone with the 1950XT.

    Should all arrive on Monday
