    165 is 1.8GHz stock, 9x multi but 1Mb L2 cache per core; x2 4200+ is 2.2GHZ stock, 11x multi & 512k L2 cache per core.
    Are you planning on overclocking?

i wasn't planning to as my 3000 a64 seems to not want to now - i followed guides and guides and guides and still couldn't do it, so probably not.

i want to edit movies, download and surf at the same time, as now i can't when movie editing. and playing good games, but g/card upgrade and ram upgrade are next yr.

I would probably go for the x4200+ then - imo the extra 400MHz core speed will have more effect than the extra L2 cache.
