Need some advice on a new PC!

    Hello everyone,

I need some advice on a new workstation that I am building. Its primary use will be for .NET development work and be capable of running Vista Business/Ultimate operating systems.

Can you tell me if the following components are viable in the new system?

    CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
    Motherboard: ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP
    Memory : 2Gb (2X1Gb) Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC5300 (667)
    Graphics Card : 256MB XFX 7600GT XT
DVD Writer : Pioneer DVR-111DBK Black 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer
CPU Cooler : Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower Cooler
PSU : 550W Xclio Greatpower Modular SLi U-Quiet

I'm going to use the 74gb WD Raptors on this new workstation.

Does anyone have views whether to consider the Intel Pentium D 940 PreslerCore, 2x3.2 GHz, 2MB x 2 Cache cpu instead of the E6300??
I'm choosing the E6300 cpu for budget reasons and hope to upgrade in a year's time to the quad core cpu.

Any help or recommendations will be appreciated.

    Thanks!!

don't know about the rest of the stuff you are asking but I would consider the change from your antec 550 psu to the xclio a step down... I would stick with the antec

You are right and I'm leaving the Antec psu to run the dual xeons. Cheers!

Stick with the 6300. It is nice, though you can get a D945 for a little over £100 on scan at the moment.
System is balanced and will be fine with vista.
