Branded and generic RAM (the usual question, with a twist)

RAM Manufacturers like crucial and kingston often charge a premium for 'branded' ram so if you use the ram selector you end up paying a little bit more.

Unfortunately I'm forced to purchase some FB-DIMMs from Insight and they do not seem to stock generic parts. I am forced to look at some designed for a Apple XServe Xeon.

Now, people normally ask whether they can use generic ram in their branded system. Can the same apply the other way around? ie. Is it safe to use branded RAM in other systems or can the branded parts be under specified?.

I always expect Branded RAM to be better quality, better matched chips... than Generic, but there are some good Value options about.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

So, for example, you can use RAM that Kingston have branded as Apple and use it in a Dell completely safely?

    Indeed.
    SD Ram is SD Ram.
    A SO-DIMM is a SO-DIMM.
    DDR is DRR etc.

There should be no issues using branded/non-branded RAM in any system.
Just branded RAM is usually of a better quality/better overclocks.

Whether or not it is branded makes no difference to the actual workings of the RAM.
