£750 budget gaming rig!

I know that mobo won't overclock - hence saying spend less on the case and more on the mobo - the system above was for another forum member who was after something with a small footprint - I just couldn't be bothered to go all through it agian, when motherboard choices atm, are up to the individual (all the decent 965 boards don't have much to divide them, same for the 975 boards).

Personally - after blowing a Hiper (this was when they were seen as the next rival to the greats (about 2 years ago)) I was glad I had a decent psu. I'm running a Seasonic S12 500w atm, and its been brilliant, rock solid. The Corsair HX520 is the same PSU with some minor revisions, and a rebranding (still made by Seasonic) so an absolute gem. Bottom line, it's expensive, but its worth it.

Thanks for the help everyone, taken on board everything thats been said. Just leaves me with what monitors to buy thats suitable for a dx10 card. One will be an lcd tv and the other a normal monitor, i've been told to look for something with a response time below 8ms but not sure what resolutions i should be looking for?

response times are lies. ignore them

just get a nice 20" or 24" widescreen from a decent brand that's within budget

I dont know much about lcd tv's but here are some budget monitors:

standard 19" widescreen 8ms

ive never had a problem with non-branded monitors (as long as its got a decent warranty u should be fine)

the difference between a cheap & expensive tft is in the scaling & filter circuitry - this will make a difference when using a VGA cable, or running apps at non-native resolution.

also, be sure to buy a screen with 16.7M not 16.2M colors - makes a huge difference

Except they also lie about that now and just claim +2 bit dithered to make up to the 16.7M. I've seen the same monitor referenced by it's own makers as both 16.2M and 16.7M before..

it does get expensive getting a high quality monitor. If you are on a tight budget would you not recommend a good value budget monitor?

no. i'd recommend getting a smaller monitor from a decent manufacturer

a screen is something you spend 100% of your computing time making full use of. don't cut corners

If you can't afford a good monitor then you shouldn't be buying a DX10 capable card right now - otherwise all that power is being wasted as you either aren't pushing that many pixels or you've got high resolution but your colours are so washed out and blurry you might as well use a cheaper card and turn the details down

Samsung 205BWs are now around £200. Colours not as good as the dell, but it's probably as good as you'll get from a TN.

IIRC the 2007fpw is an S-IPS panel which has better contrast & viewing angle, at the expense of a slightly higher response time (8-16ms generally)
