Even if it's around £180 I'd still go for the 640Mb version for around £240 ish, most games these days are starting to take advantage of the higher memory avilable on cards. If it were available for around £150 though I might consider it

I am still going to hold out for ATI although it is tempting.
That is the first time I have ever visited their forum. It is awful. Really,I have no axe to grind with them, but it is dreadful.

    Whose forum?

And back on topic, ATI is going to be decent, but... they will have had nearly 6 months to re-design the chip to produce better results, and nVidia will be working on 8900's

    Agreed.

The only reason I would go for a lower memory or clocked 8800 series card would be it it was significantly smaller, single slot, or had lower power consumption.

i said the almost exact same thing on tomshardware forums :O

if we think logically, ATi has had about 3 months to look at the 8800 and make something that will beat it. so i'd probably say yes. then maybe nVidia will pull something like a 8900 and 8950gtx/gts out of their asses.
    shocking

Ok, Bit of confusion over which forum.

Seen too many threads turn into OcUK bashing threads. I know I am not a mod but could we keep this on track about the card and not the company.

Which games? What resolutions? There are many people like me - tight-fisted - who are happily running our 19" LCDs at their native 1280x1024. I cant think of any current game that wouldn't fly at that res on a 320MB 8800GTS. Let's say the price settles back to around £150+VAT, then I think this makes it an absolute winner. I'm seriously considering it - at that price I'd be quite happy to run it for a year or so and ebay it off without having lost too much.

And as for future games, it's easily handle anything that's out this year at that resolution - including Crysis. So stop trying to make me spend more money!
