LOMAC, tonight, 8.30-9pm on MSN guys

Rumour has it we're flying tonight on a ground strike mission deep into enemy territory. Since our Su25s haven't got the legs to get in this far we've been lent those Su33's you saw landing last night. Best look after em unless you want an angry sailor boy after you. At least the long flight will give us chance to practice some formation flying and check out the scenery...

Haven't been given the full mission briefing from mission command yet, no doubt they'll fill us in before the flight.

I'm just putting the finishing touches on the mission now and all will be revealed later this afternoon. It does indeed involve an incursion deep into enemy territory (long-ish flight so prob a good mission for noobies to play, and yes that includes u lowe )

    More details to follow.

Right well the missions done and heres the briefing.

The war between the Nato and Russia is not going in Natos favour. Three top generals who are currently based at Makytop and have decided to fall back to a base further from the frontline. They plane to leave at 6.15 but due to the current situation and the battle that is going on in the mountains south of the base this time cannot be guarrenteed.

The mission is for a flight of 4 Su-33 to fly north over the mountains to avoid the battle then turn west to attack the Makytop AFB. The generals will be in hummers or in the C17s. These must be destroyed on the ground and if any of them takeoff then they must be shot down. This must happen quickly as shortly after taking off the C17s are scheduled to meet with a substantial escort.

Makytop AFB is heavily defended due to the Generals presence. There is a hawk SAM site as well as a number of Vulcan AA cannons. 4 apaches are also orbiting the area.

    [edit from Lowe]

Just added 2x27 flights as Escort just incase we get 6 people, though they shouldn't be needed.

Nice one lads - great mission, thanks to Pee, Blinkz and Merlin for showing up for a flight.

Mission went well. We all got in the air well, though lost formation slightly meaning we had to regroup a little later than first expected. Once we all grouped together we didn't get much time before having to split up again - the intended ground target was already in the air!

Whilst the lads carried in low level, I gained a bit of height and chased the C17 and its escorts. The F5s soon detected my search radar and turned to engage, but both had an R27 shoved in their face for their troubles. This left me all the time in the world to catch the C17 up and chuck two R73s up its backside.

Meanwhile the lads were making runs in on the ground targets, dodging heavy fire from the AAA. Merlin took a nasty shot and lost half an aileron. I managed to get a clean run in whilst the lads occupied the SAM site and AAA and dropped 6 FAB-250s on the ground targets and took the lot out in one pass.

Once we'd nailed it we all flew back and landed - Pee deserves praise for landing despite only having 10fps due to him forgetting to turn his anti-aliasing down.

    Screenies:

    Cheers again lads.

Thnx guys, much fun, we were in and out before they knew what to do

Mind you I was glad to get down on the airstrip - i lost an important chunk of metal and couldnt trim my way out of it so i got the wobbles all the way home, and i got about 1 pint of fuel left

Where were the apache's? I was really looking forward to smoking them Lowe took out a C17 in style, i was trailing and had a lock on the C17 too but it wouldnt have been sooooo rude

Had the game since day one but i've only flown the F15 and A10's. Does the Su have altitude stabilisation? If so then a big Doh for me cos i was doing it manually.

Yeah, just hit H, same as the other aircraft. The F15 has an automatic trim that's on all the time, hence it doesn't dive/climb when you adjust your speed. No other LOMAC flyable plane has this feature - instead you either have to trim it manually or press H for altitude hold.

Ahh that explains a few things. Am just learning to fly properly, concentrating on the F15. I'm slowly getting the hang of it, hopefully I'll be able to join you guys once I'm confident.

This may help you - a key summary:

    Key 1....Nav mode. All aircraft.
Key 2. Beyond Visual range. F15/Su27/Mig29/Su33 only. Engage targets up to 100km with stand off missiles. Sometimes multi target ability with Mig29S and F15.
Key 3. CAC mode. Boresight in the F15 i think, Vertical scan on the Su27/mig29/Su33. Get the target in the circle or bar, lock and fire.
Key 4. Boresight mode. EOS and Radar look ahead in the circle. Lock aircraft in circle and fire.
Key 5. Only soviet aircraft. Helmet sight, lets you aquire agile targets by moving your head. Especially effective with R73 missiles which can be launched at up to 11g. Get the enemy in the circle and lock and fire.
Key 6. Longitudinal missle aming. You directly steer the seeker head onto the target and lock and fire. Yet again, only soviet aircraft. Means you can still fight if you lose your radar or EOS.
Key 7. Ground attack. CCIP pipper, TV mode or IR mode for optical ground attack missiles.
Key 8. Ladder mode for when you lose your hud and still have ordnance you want to use. You can use the ladder with the cannon and it is also useful for dogfighting as well as dropping bombs.
