CoD4, the next stage for me

    Lo fellow Soldiers

I have got to lvl 50 now, and enjoyed a huge amount of this game. I am now trying to improve my Kill to Death ratio.

It's hard, but man, it's satisfying when it all comes together. I've stopped running off to win the map, and started playing with a strategy. And it's paying off.

But holy hell, I have a bridge to cross.

4500 deaths to 3500 kills...I need to make up over 1000 on my ratio! I was dire at this game to begin with, but carried on getting good scores by sacrificing myself on every map to win flags in Domination. I regret that now

Anyone got a really good killt o death ratio? I'm managing to draw even in half the maps and come out on top on the other half, with the occassional monster massacre when it all goes really well.

Re: CoD4, the next stage for me

Is this for some achievement thing on the xbox?

I play cod4 on on the pc, and although my K : D ratio is positive I have little idea what it is. Not finger pointing or meaning any offence to you , but I find that when people focus on K : D ratio's rather than playing a team game it spoils the fun somewhat for me, especially when it means the game objectives dont get done because one or two people wanna camp it out and little else. Thats the main reason I only tend to play on mates clan servers and not general publics, cos the campers and people that do that get booted

    no offence taken chap.

It's on PC not X box, I get no extra skills points for it....but I have spent months getting ravaged by other people while I do the winning...and now I have decided to die a lot less

Re: CoD4, the next stage for me

I think generally, apart from just honing your skills and reactions and being that much quicker on the trigger, if you want to keep a better ratio AND play the game as it should be.. stay away from domination game mode

Whenever I have played that, the way to win as a team in most cases is to put your body on the line and not bother about getting killed and push forward as a team. Being the aggressor like that does hurt your kill ratio, but it gets the game won Of course if you find a server where plenty of other people are willing to do that, you can afford to sit back a bit, defend and pick off the enemy.

My overall suggestion would not to worry too much about your ratio, but find a friendly server where you can get a consistently clean and fun game, where teamwork is used. You'll find the game so much more rewarding, and improve your skills to boot

Sounds like you are a much better player than when you started, so just keep going as you are and in time that ratio will come around without you even worrying about it

Re: CoD4, the next stage for me

    no...it wont sady.

I'm not bad but I'm not great and wont ever get great.

I have to play it like my life depends on it.... i hide..I creep, I snipe, I lay down a lot of spray and pray fire and I peg it across the open spaces

I can't aim while I jump and strafe round corners, I have never been much good at that, unless it;s with a splash damage weapon like a rocket launcher in Quake. My mouse skills on moving targets are really really bad, and prolly always will be because I snatch my hand to much.

Sooo... after a few months of great enjoyment but horrific inusry, I am now playing more self-protective and I love the Domination maps.

I also must note I'm back to a fresh install of the game, version 1.1 I think and wont go back to 1.7 for a while. 1.1 seems very much more sedate....1.7 j...I just got mullered every secind of every minute...was horrible.

I'm not fast enough to play with the big boys ya see

Re: CoD4, the next stage for me

I'm on 1.7, and I've had a consistent 1:2 kill to death ratio since I started playing. My fave game mode is HQ - and I do try to win the map rather than shoot people

I know Trash man has a good kill to death ratio something like 4:1 iirc, mines still just below 1:1 switching to headquarters, domination and search and destroy meant fewer kills for me than free for all which I used to play almost exclusively but more xp and more fun in the long run.

Re: CoD4, the next stage for me

Mines 3.42 at the moment, roughly 38,000 kills and 11,000 deaths. Longest kill streak is 35. I've only played TDM and S&D so far and 90% of the time I play hardcore. I'm not a runner n' gunner, I like to get to my fave spots on maps and claymore the doors and then sit there and take out all the fools running around like headless chickens

14 days ouch, i'm only on 4.5 days! Out of interest what are other folks play times?
I'm getting there with the old kill/death 7000/8000 roughly. I get owned by gits with martyrdom, that should be removed
