    Patch Discussion: 1.1B

Well I hosted last night....and Knox, Tumble, Dak and Shoit flew around a bit

First off: Sound....other than at first engine start (think Dak got it right: Screeching cat in a dustbin) when the EAX is monster overdone......its VASTLY better.

Fly bys are accurate (speaker positioning)....and elevation (ie apparent overhead noises) are fantastic.

My Audigy has NEVER managed IL2.....it used to cut out all over the place...not anymore And swapping gun positions makes a much better sound effect diference

Frame Rate: where has it gone? Yeuch.....you'd think my Rad9600 Pro would do the job....1024x768x32 and IL2 set to Medium and it was STILL stopping sometimes.....maybe ie should have kept1gig of PC2700.....instead of uprgrading to 512 of PC3200

Still...cant be processor.....12.5x180 is loads innit

ANd net lag? Whats hapened there......with Shoit and Knox flying.....I hit Alt Tab....then Cntrl Alt Del once....then chose the Network connection speed logger......and sat and watched it....

my Cable shows as a 10mb/sec...cos its on a LAN but its only a 600kb/s speed at the box...

    HOWEVER>.....of the 10mb/sec Network potential....I never wenty above 2%....ever

    2% of 10,000,000b/s is 200,000.....my connection is 600,000b/s

so it was only on 1/3 at the max....

upload speed is diff being NTL its 128,000 but taking into account that the network traffic measure BOTH in AND out.....you'd think it would be fine.

ALways has been.....so once again..more tweaking.

Dont ask me about how PLANES fly in it......cos I couldnt day. 190's still hold speed on landing for about 3 years and take monster effort to get down on the deck.

    And they have big guns

Yak9 is still fast and easy to fly....and I153 seems......less tight in turns

I agree, the sound is much improved, though I think the bullet trajectory modelling has been played with, I seem to be able to hit stuff more often. Feels like the cannons on the Hurri have been tweaked down though.

the sound is brilliant for flybys, much improved there. But on take off the engine doesn't sound quite right and the brakes sound horrible :/

The AA has changed, there is sooo much more of it it can be just as lethal as it was before, but there are times when it will miss you completely.

Can't really comment on the planes, but they do seem to have toned down the hurri and the i-l53's turning ability. The 190 seems even faster than it was before, i couldn't keep up after a while in my p-39 it just kept overheating.

Apparently... and I've got this from the Ubi forums while trying to work out why my FB wouldn't patch, hitting alt-tab is bad for crashing IL2, maybe the lagginess was cos your rig was trying too hard to host the game and alt-tab at the same time....

Landing my 109 seems harder the approach angle seems more critical. But on the plus side the guns seem more effective. I say 'seem' as I still can't hit much......

Couple of little things I've noticed tonight.... trees.. they look better from the air, but still look like green mist from the ground... and the bombers seem to be able to stretch their legs a bit better - the He-111 actually takes off without stalling and dropping a wing and gets a good bit of air under it's wheels with bombs on, and the TB-3 will go 200KPH with 4 x 1000lb bombs on (if it's trimmed properly of course). They done good things with quite a few of the flight models it would seem.

oh, and Fanks to Zak - my sound's working properly now and I can whack all the settings right up again ta mate

    190A series - beautiful.

    109s - not so good

Hurricane - now behaves like a Hurricane

P-47 - Fantastic, very fast, very tough, comes into its own at high altitude.

Prop-wash effect is cool although a touch framerate unfreindly

Landing is definately trickier, slowing down becoming the main concern.

P-39 seems to be the VVS chosen mount now - very Uber. Expect to see them swarming all over dogfight servers again.

    I153 really evened out.

I noticed prop wash too, but thought it was imagination.

Heinkel 111 takes off faster by miles.

    190.......er...I'll get there..I bloody will

P39 has alwasy been a brillant plane below 4000m...You lot just didnt relise it. Bit disgusted the rest of the worlds sussed it out tbh

Im finding wing removal as efficiant as ever, and some lovely big explosions
