    Advice for those just starting?

I take it most people are playing FB?

Does everyone use the patch (is it required for certain servers a la UT etc?)?

    Any good advice?

It's a long haul!! I've been playing for a month now and i'm just starting to get to grips with it. Get a decent joystick, I swapped my old logitech for a saitek x45, what a difference!!! the aircraft no longer lurches 'round the sky in a series of spastic movements.......

Get your self Hyperlobby and lookout for us Marlins chaps,

introduce yourself and we'll see about setting up a erver and taking you through the basics.

And I'd say you'll be hard pushed to find anyone running a server that doesn't need the patch... so get hold of it.

Its amazing how much Forgotten Battles has improved my other flight sims, well i mean BF1942, playing that now is so funny, i find myself flying 2 inches from the plane in front without flinching.

I wish i could have recorded some of that footage from the session i had round moby-dick house with his house mate Vimeous and some mates.

    It was truely commical

oh they do..but you gotta conserve speed my friend. Some panes wont do it at all......some will stall on ya......

and sometimes, a stall is a gift from heaven....so long as YOU did it, not gravity on its own

Forced stalls are good unless your out numbered, if the guy who's on your 6 has a wingman and hes in the right place you very soon become a sitting duck if that guy can shoot straight...

You should learn how to stall-turn, when done effectively its a very good way to change direction rapidly.

Often used at the top of a steep climb in a vertical dogfight, you can turn with a far more maneuverable opponent simply by allowing the stall to assist you.

Yeah check ur six first, its my favourite way of getting on the tail of faster turning planes though. The speed you lose in gaining altitude should be regained when you dive onto the turning planes tail, guns a blazing.
