    IL-2 Benchmarking

Does anyone know if there is a way to use IL-2 (such as a recorded track) as a Benchmark for Frames Per Second?

Becuase if there IS a way......I wanna give David/Tarinder/Rysard the details and get them to use it in Reviews. It would be IMMENSELY helpfull for the 10's of Thousands of Pilots !

Use the 'Black Death' track - thats what everyone else uses.

I think 'fps START SHOW ' is the console command for frames per second, Hat is yer man for console commands

So it is possible? I feel that as Hexus does SO MANY GRAPHICS card reviews.....it would be an ideal oppotunity to build the IL2 forum by having Hexus rate the vid cards using it.

For example......whacking all the details upand then benchmarking it. Then you know whaere ya stand ...cos frankly, Q3 is no use to us!

Well, put it this way, Il2 and LOMAC are going to be THE ONLY reason for me to buy a decent card, and being such graphically demanding games, yeah I'd say that was a good idea m8.

No it didn't. It just became a benchmark of system throughput.

I will not support a push to using IL-2 in reviews just because you're all fans of the game. It doesn't work like that.

I'll support using it if it's a nice, repeatable benchmark on the hardware we use, isn't biased completely towards certain hardware, is predictable in its results, and responds to the driver settings we use.

But not just because you all think it's the best game since the joystick was invented.

I reckon Zak's meaning that an IL2 benchmark is relevant for many of us, which it is. Unfortunately, IL2 isn't nearly as popular as Q3, UT2k3 or CS... you gotta go with what the majority play with... majority rules I'm afraid.

I should think pretty much every online gmaer in the country who is concerned with framerate owns a copy of Q3. A Q3 benchie is far more relevant to the general gamer as they know what the game looks like and runs like on their own PC. This means the benchmark actually means something as they have a comparison they are able to make between the review benchie and their own machine.

People aren't going to go and buy a copy if IL2 unless they want a flight sim, so they aren't going to buy a copy just to be able to run a benchmark for comparison sakes.

It's a nice idea though. I personally thinks the track of me taking down Tumble, Stoo and Jase before RTBing should be used, but of course I might be slightly biased..

I didn't say we wouldn't use it, just that if we do, it's because it's a cool benchmark, not because it's popular, or you guys think it's brill to play.

We may switch benchmark tests to stuff that probably isn't popular, popularity of a game has nothing to do with benchmarking. Q3 ended up being ubiquitous in reviews because it's a fine benchmark. The game just happened to be nice too. It's about running numbers that people understand. They don't necessarily need the ability to run those numbers themselves

    So it's not a no or a yes, it's a maybe, if it's a nice benchmark.

IMO its not a case if its a fine benchmark or not, for the sake of 1 extra graph on the review you'll be pickin the interest of a group of ppl that dont care how fast u fight like Nali......

Nahh.....you got it all wrong....a Benchmark is something to help you buy the RIGHT GRAPHICS CARD for the game you already own...not the other way around

Tumlbe, Trig, Hat......millions of people who frankly dont know what card is RIGHT for IL-2 .......Hexus reviews 3 cards, benchies all 3 of them.....then of ya go...

we know which card to buy.
Its what Benchies are for.....you dont go and buy the game just to run a benchie on your own PC!

    Well....I dont

That one extra graph is 2 more hours of work, benchmarking at least 12 times for the graphs we generate, generating the graphs, commenting on them.

It's not as simple as you think.

And it's absolutely 100% about whether it's a good benchmark. If it's pumping out random results every time, what use it that? Could be a great game, but a complete arse of a benchmark. So yes, it absolutely is about how it performs in a benchmark scenario.
