Today I have 2 hours set aside for....

    .....high altitude practice.

These Lagg's and Yaks are cack at high altitude....and on Monday, I was VEFing and I was trying to desperately to get the LF to come down and play at my heights, but to no avail.....

I had ONE loner down lowish, and I tailgated him in my Yak9 D, but once again, where you guys would have shot him up, I missed totally, and I was on him for ages.......

For the record too, a Yak9 D has now held a consistent 680 kph in a steep and then shallow dive while Zakky worked on a gentle eleveator trim and NO AERILONS....and she came right out.....

the was ONE SHOCKED 109...A: a Yak lived with him in a dive to 700kph and B: the Yak missed with every bullet

Anyway.....its AI time today. Once NTL have been to upgrade my Phat Pipe t a PHATTER 1.5 meg I shall set up a few 109's up high...and I shall strive to learn HOW to gettem...cos right now, I cant

The trouble I find with high altitude practice against AI is that they don't stay high for very long. Before you know what's happened they're doing spiralling twisting things into the lower altitude stuff and making it much easier for you.

    you are right.....not very realisitic....

I have a nightmare with trying to engage 109's in a Yak or a Lagg when they are at 7000.....the VVS stuff just wont do it.....SC to 2, mixture to 60 and even 40...prop pitch seems best at 90 at high alt...but speed....you aint got none.....

turn...yeah right no hope..stall.....ooh I can do that

Hi Alt in Russain Planes except the LA is a mare, the only time Ive been sucessful is to climb miles away from anywhere and then try to circle round the back of LW and creep up on them. Knock em down with 1 hit, its worked a few times, but when they know you are there I just bug out to 4000 or so and let them come down to me, they dont come we dont play simple as that

The MiG can be okay at high alt. In fact that's the only time you stand a chance in a MiG.

I couldn't belive all those times in VEF when we were asked to escort IL2's at about 500ft in MiGs. It was suicide every time. Or for that matter ground attack in MiGs - that was just crazy. They turned into torches everytime.

edit: for no other reason than, 'because it's there,' I just climbed to 10,050m in the MiG (at which point it started to stall/spin at even the gentlest bank). Then what? Well I dived it nose first into the ground of course! 990 KPH!
