I was a bit surprised that there wasn't a thread started about this game. I was going to but didn't think the demand was there!
I unlocked last night at about 2330 after preloading from GOG earlier in the week. As per usual with PC games I spend time messing about with the settings to get the performance right before I start again 'properly'.
Currently having to run with just a single 7970 as the crossfire profile/dedicated driver isn't available. I believe that a release is meant to be happening this week. Searching on other places just has the usual moaning about performance etc. which smacks of self entitlement. I get bored of seeing things like "I have a 970 why cant I run 1080p60 Ultra". As with the world its always someone else's fault it seems.
Single card I can run mostly high with 40-50fps just in the opening bits, but I'm sure things will iron themselves out.
Looking forward to starting later on tonight. Remember to put your saves back so you can import when you start a new game :) Have fun
JP
Thanks :) Yes, the manual says that about the save games too (specific directory needed), though I don't know which file is which (have several different save games). Might get rid of all of them so prologue includes choices to set up how I like (again, if manual is correct).
I am W7 SP1 x64 and think it was in the C:\Users\[Name]\Documents folder. I dropped my Witcher 2 folder there and then it brings up a prompt to let you pick which save. I wonder if you just pick new game if you get the same thing as the console users where you retell your story to pick past choices.
theres an option for 'simulate witcher 2 saves' either on or off
on - gives you a quest person where you get to choose what happened in witch er 2
off - default word state.
no idea what he default state is, cant find forum post saying what it is, its on the cdpr forums somewhere though.
I'm trying to avoid most spoilers as my CE copy only arrives tomorrow.
It should run on a 750ti, maybe not it high settings, but it'll run. ultra 4k is something to look forward too. gives the game replayability.
I must have missed that. Was that option in the same place as when I selected 'Import' saves? Maybe I just saw that and selected it without checking the other options
I think it doesn't show up if you import the saves, as you've already made the choices and theres no turning back.
although a quick skim of cdpr forums says it give you the option after you click 'start new game'
ill find out tomorrow when my copy arrives ;)
Currently tweaking the options and seeing the effect and even at mid/high I think its great game to look at artistically. 2560x1440 is bit much to run with just the one card, but pegging it to 30 frames is surprisingly acceptable. Going to carry on tweaking and by the time a half decent crossfire solution is out it will fly :) Enjoy your CE goodies
I don't have enough VRAM on my card to actually run this according to the specs, mind you I usually take them with a pinch of salt.
However I am getting a PS4 with Witcher 3 and Bloodborne delivered tomorrow so may just simulate my save from Witcher 2 as finished a play through a few days ago.
You are going to love Bloodborne. I put about 60 hours into it having never previously 'got' FROM software games, but was so addicted to it :)
Back on topic though - After tweaking it seems that High on my OC 7970 will yield a solid 40 at the higher resolution. If I drop it to 1080p I can get almost 60. Its so smooth, but wishing that I had a 1080p gaming monitor, its becomes a chore trying to get 2560 running spot on.
Just been riding about doing this testing. The world looks fantastic really. Looks really vibrant with lots going on. For giggles I dumped everything to low and the world still looked great IMO. I think everyone has been conditioned to reach for the high/ultra and then complain after. I think it could be very playable making sure draw distance and textures were up with the rest lower. But artistically, its great.
Cant wait to start playing it properly. Reinstalling it as I didnt want to use GOG Galaxy, which needs a bit of work really. Will just have to get things done manually for now. Those who got it on PC, don't forget that the first 2 free pieces of DLC are out. Only some armour and beards (!!) but hey its free :)
Yeah I was expecting doom and gloom on the 7870 but it's fine - mix of medium (shadows) and high (textures, water) settings at the moment, will do more tinkering later. The lighting is certainly very vibrant - a bit over the top as I slightly preferred the solemn skylines of the first game, but it creates several nice scenes.
Yes it's definitely closer in colour palette to the second one than the first. People are already trying to sweet fx it back to the grittier muted style as per early trailers.
EDIT: A PC tweak guide. Yes. Like the old days.
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gui...tweaking-guide
how do you think I feel ? every single one of my specs is below minimum required to run it, and I don't give a flip :p
was even going to try it on onboard radeon 3300, but dx11 support is hard required (need card to support it or it wont run)
also, not sure where I got this link from, but heres how to tweak it on NVidia cards http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/gui...tweaking-guide
explains what every single option does in the settings page, could prove useful.
another thing i've read for those using mice, is to turn on hardware cursor, its makes it more responsive in mouse movements. found under video>graphics at the bottom.
see for details https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nunp3XkhZI4
Looks like we both put on the guide at the same time :) great minds and all that
Call me sad but I like tweaking the settings. Reminds me of the old Crysis days. People have it too simple these days!
well I wouldn't say I have a great mind, its just idle thinking and annoyance at GAME cancelling my preorder I made in December that's keeping me online and typing random dribble about a game I cant yet play. :p
GAME 'failed payment'ed it last Wednesday and their auto-system kicked up a wishlist person who then bought it, so there was nothing they could do. and it was only sheer luck that amazon had one suddenly become available on Thursday that I managed to get it.
missed out on the silver metallic signed sheet, but im not that bothered by that.
oh yeah, don't forget to buy this from gog http://www.gog.com/game/the_witcher_...ee_dlc_program
I think that's how you get the dlcs assigned to your legit copy. so you can download from gog or through galaxy.
I need to go now, or ill wake up late for the postie tomorrow.
may do an unboxing, but theres millions of those on youtubs already, so watch one of them instead.
Yep signed up for that too. I like the idea of GOG Galaxy and the way it streamlines downloads etc of patches but just seemed a bit too in the early stages so removed it and went back to good old manual.
Hope you have fun when your copy arrives.
Out of the box it's a little jerky and unpleasant on my 7970, will have a tweak this evening. In all honesty I on.y had time to watch the opening sequence and see if I wanted to play with a controller or keyboard/mouse as with the previous 2.
http://forums.hexus.net/members/stev...1-sooon-tm.png
now its on to the postie van hunting game..... :vacant:
2nd batch of 2 DLC is out today aswell, then 2 more next week, and so on up until theres 16 out.
hairworks on AMD cards?
sure why not. makes it run better.

http://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comm...cards_without/
give credit to reddit guy, im just passing on info.
That sounds interesting. Looks like small tweaks already coming out of the woodwork. I'm pretty certain that in a couple of weeks that things will be fine. Things that I would typically crank such as shadows look great even on low/med so might look to step things down to hit 50 at 2560x1440. For me, vegetation density, water and textures are what I try to keep high, as for me that makes the biggest difference to the world view.
Almost at the point where I might be happy to start playing it properly :)
Well was really enjoying it about 3 hours in and wham now hit with constant crashing, inventory freezing, crash to desktop with the game still run its basically unplayable :( sadly i don't seem to be alone.
Just wondering. Are there specific physics (or Physx) effects that are for Nvidia cards only? Trying to see if there is a way to enable them whilst still on AMD GPUs. Will have to have a google later tonight, I'm sure I saw videos with extra particle effects. However, there doesn't appear to be an option for it, unlike say for example borderlands, where you could select to turn it on even on AMD hardware (and shift it to CPU or something). Makes me think if its baked in and just the game detects your hardware.
Running nicely and looks awesome on PS4, so far only watched the intro, done the tutorial (button layout is different to 360 pad) and arrived at White Orchard after a run in with a Gryphon.
Few slight stutters on cut scenes but nothing overly drastic.
The end of the tutorial gave me the chills with everything frozen and the ghostly ship of The Wild Hunt.
But new toy and currently waiting for the 2.75Gb Bloodborne patch to download
don't want yet another Witcher 3 thread, so, here have some Collectors Edition photos:

theres also a fancy box thing to put everything in, and the standard retail package with the discs and soundtrack.
*please note, everything pictured didn't come with it, some are included for artistic purposes.
I have gained a few levels, beaten the Cleric and wandering round the sewer type area trying to work out where to go, with the Souls games I knew where to be heading (Dark Souls at least, Demons looked at best path to be taking per level etc)
I think I am around 14 or so now, upgraded saw axe weapon once so far, started to get to grips with the combat.
Collected a madmans thought for insight but unsure whether to use it just yet. Also have the small music box to believe I need to be finding Gasgoine to be able to head towards next area. Pathfinding has been my biggest hold back, also the combat as it is a lot faster than their previous games and I am used to Sword & Board type setup.
Think I will follow the wiki tomorrow to get through this opening area
Then going to actually play some Witcher 3
just so you know, it works perfectly on my 750ti, 6 year old phenom2 x4 920 and slow pokey mechanical hard drive.
it's silky smooth, hairworks is enabled and 0 crashes so far.
don't know why anyone bothered buying new graphics cards for this..
there is one problem though.
if I turn up the settings past Low and turn on some of the post processing effects, it runs like an asthmatic granny climbing some stairs whilst carrying the box the CE came in ;)
at least when I upgrade (whens the next competition drawn on here?) it'll look very nice, adds to the replay ability factor in my eyes.
hehe
After a few tweaks I'm now running pretty much everything on high settings with hairworks on and it's fast enough for combat to be pretty smooth so far. Think the little 7870 is punching above its weight (and technically my CPU is below min. spec.. but we know that's a bit of nonsense).
I'd say save up for the hunters axe and let that be your main weapon. I used it until the end. It's just soo epic. I found myself summoning help more than the previous games(mainly for bosses) but I have enjoyed the faster pace and the heal system.
Im doing a replay of witcher 2 before I start witcher 3.
Nice. I got too much of a drop with hairworks on, although I am running at a higher resolution. Going to have another play with those settings again to see. I find shadows and foliage distance have the greatest affect on framerates, so I've put shadows at medium as I really cant see any difference, and foilage at high for now. the rest is at a mix of ultra and maybe high, and I can get a nice smooth 40-50 at that, riding around the open world.
Really want to get hairworks working, as I think it makes beasts look great, but might not be able to do it at my resolution until AMD releases 15.5 Beta.
One thing I do wish is that they had an option in game like Shadow of Mordor, which is at opposite of DSR/VSR. Basically I always try to select my native 2560x1440 resolution as even though the scaling is good, native is just that bit clearer, but in SoM you could say render less pixels in a % if needed you could have clarity of native, but performance of a lower res.
Smoothness makes a massive difference in combat though, less so in general traversal. Overall I think its a beautiful game.

JP
Just wondering What are ppl playing on Steam or GOG?
I was looking at buying it today and it looks cheaper on GOG but i've not really bought many games on there so not really had much experience...
GOG is excellent for their own games, of which The Witcher is one ;)
For other games it's great as well, but if they need updating they can be a bit slow with third party patches (but because they made The Witcher this isn't a problem here). For that reason I tend to stick to older games on GOG for non CDProjekt games.
I got the retail version (£28 from Amazon at the time), which is separate from GOG or Steam, but comes with a GOG key as well.
1.04 was out the other day too:
-Rebinding of all keys is now available after switching on the ‘Unlock Bindings’ option in the Options\Key Bindings submenu.
-Corrects an issue in the dialogue system that might have caused dialogue looping in certain scenes.
-Fixes an issue with incorrect behavior of Wild Hunt warriors after they were affected by the Axii Sign.
-Corrects a bug that caused spontaneous combustion of gas clouds.
-1280 x 720 resolution is now properly displayed as a valid resolution option.
-Fixes boat stuttering in cutscenes.
-Texture rendering quality for the high and ultra presets has been improved.
-Further improvements made in NVIDIA Hairworks performance.
-A few additional gwent cards are now available in the Prologue area.
-Fixes an issue where users with usernames incorporating non-Latin characters were unable to import saves from The Witcher 2.
-Includes a series of overall stability and performance improvements.
-Fixes issues related to alt + tabbing and minimizing the game window.
-Updates the game icon.
-Enlarges the loot pop-up window in the UI.
-Fixes an issue where, in certain circumstances, the comparison window could extend beyond the game borders in the UI.
-Upgrading items included in gear sets no longer destroys rune sockets on said items.
-Introduces small tweaks in the UI for gwent.
-Corrects some missing translations in localized versions.
Bought it :D
The only problem now is I'm in work till 4 and the missus will prolly want to spent time together tonight :( I suppose I can start it downloading it :D
I put on the 1.04 patch yesterday and his has greatly improved LoD at higher settings. I was previously using sweet fx to improve it but now it's almost spot on.
one bug that's affecting everyone in 1.04 is the NPC 'popping' where they magically appear infront of you.
its very annoying. :(
also, the saves are still currently locked to patch version, so if you downgrade - as in reinstall whole game and only put on 1.03 patch - then you cant load up the 1.04 save.
at least the patches seem to be improving performance though. I'm now running in medium settings and its still just as smooth as it was in low settings. CPU usage has gone up from 40% to 90% though,
59 hours into the game, i'm level 17 and not been to skellige yet.
what can I say? I like exploring. and apparently elf heads take like squishy strawberries, add a few nekkers, some squashed frogs and a sprinkling of slugs you get a nice stew. .head north on the 'inn of the crossroads' peninsula ;)
GOG is absolutely trustworthy, although there are posts about various "bargains" from sites like CDKeys which I'm not so sure about... can anyone vouch for them?
if anyones looking for the new DLC start location, well
theres mines in them thar big mountains of central aard skellig ;)
just go to the notice board, they turn orange if theres new quests available.
and geralt broke the stuffed unicorn again.
AMD have released 15.5 for the witcher and project cars, anyone noticing an improvement in performance? i'm still on the fence whether to get this or not, never got on with the other 2
Oooh. Must give them a try and see if crossfire is working yet. There was a version floating around in guru3d but if this is official then will have to grab it.
Just had a new baby born so a little preoccupied
I'm waiting for the driver to come out of beta before trying it - the last WHQL drivers seem to be the most stable for me and the performance is already as good as I want so I'm not desperate for a small improvement at the risk of stability.
If you didn't get on with either TW1 or 2 then don't bother with 3.
Managed to download the 15.5 Betas and cant really comment on single card performance as I went to test that crossfire was functioning, and for now at least, they seem to be working great with my 2 7970's. Means I can finally play at native 2560x1440 at 60. Not sure what the scaling is yet as I haven't installed my usual monitoring tools, but able to get some decent performance now even with hairworks+the AMD tesselation tweak.
I've only been roaming around White Orchard at the moment, testing different environments and times in the day night cycle to get the settings right, but I think I'm good to start the game properly now :) I did read some reports of CFX having problems still, with flickering textures etc, but fingers crossed things will stay as they are. Its a great looking game
Well done AMD.
I just entered Novigrad, and while I was already mightly impressed with the graphics in the open world, I've been blown away by the city environment. So much detail, texture. Full of life. And still fantasticly smooth performance. CDPR have done a good job on the engine, and the hardware is doing a great job too. I was certain I'd need to upgrade but now I don't see that I'd get much benefit from doing so (I'm happy with 30fps for this kind of game).
Just wish there was an easy way of taking screenshots so I could show it off to anyone who doesn't have it!
Can you not just run FRAPs or something, which then lets you take screens? I've been using SweetFX/Reshade to have a look at some of the presets for colour etc, and settled for keeping it as it is colour wise (I quite like the vibrancy) but bumping up the sharpness only. Coupled with the LOD changes in 1.04 and the new sharpening in the in-game post processing its looking very good. I know that also has a built in screenshot function too.
I recommend turning all the HUD elements off and just wandering for a bit, and turn the music down. Its strangely atmospheric and peaceful.
I could use a third party tool, but I'd prefer not to run any overlays in case I add any extra load. Technically I don't meet minimum requirements, so I shouldn't be able to run on high settings + hairworks (capped in CCC) + ingame AA. Don't want to upset the balance!
Ah right. Yes you'd have thought that they would have added a screenshot mode that removed all UI elements. I'm pretty sure fraps has a low resource footprint if you're only after screens.
I hope you've noticed that with one of the updates they added in the ability to rebind all the keys, even the previously locked ones. you can now even bind the same key to multiple functions, dependent on whether in combat, riding, running about. I only found out yesterday when fiddling with the ui settings, of which theres also a few more. can turn off quest tracking by the looks of it.
as for my play through, 86 hours in, lvl 22, and realising how detailed and in depth the game is.
done loadsa quests in novigrad, dependent on the outcomes of them, the npcs change around the place. constantly being ambushed by angry fire church guys, angry dwarfs, witch hunters and henchmen. the corpses are piling up.
pressing the dodge key at the right moment even does some special attacks on enemies, like backhand swings, siding past bears to cut them along the side.
losing some quests even has different outcomes, especially the fist fight ones.
even noticed a lot of references to stuff that I did in witcher 1 and 2 :
need to get in a locked warehouse guarded by a tough dwarf, no probs, I worked with his mate in witcher 2, he lets me steal whatever I want, while he's off on the toilet.
angry locals want to burn me as a witch, not until one of them recognises me as the 'butcher of blaviken' from the first town in witcher 1, they leave me alone now.
the choices genuinely matter. its glorious
still on chapter 1 aswell, as I read that main quest progression locks out some side quests.
1.05 patch and 2 more dlcs are out on Wednesday. supposed to fix the no exp bug on quests.
Ah excellent. I've been reading about that xp bug in the CDPR forums so haven't really got into things much as I'm sure I'll head off and do loads of side quests first so don't want o get disadvantaged with xp.
After the whole graphics downgrade storm in a teacup I think people are actually getting down to play it and seeing it for what it is, a beautiful fully featured game world with decent gameplay. Can't wait to get further into in
well I normally just stick to the main quest and do side quests if I cross their path, I do that in every single game, have done for the past 25 years ever since the C64 in late eighties.
so just for once im trying to take my time to do a game and not rush. seems to be working so far.
I'm saving my alternate replays for the expansions in October and next may/june. but only after I do the alternates through witcher 1 and 2.
as for the DLCs, found out they announce them on twitter as to what they'll be. https://twitter.com/witchergame/stat...70562865709056
nilfgardian armour and more crossbows this week.
also, someones looked through some .ini files and found out two more DLCs. alternate looks for ciri and triss. there will be toggle options under settings to enable them. as there is for the yen one.
so 8 more unannounced ones to come.
I have only been able to play a couple of hours so far but those hours where spent mostly gawping at how gorgeous it is :D
The scary thing that those couple of hours felt like seconds. The game is amazing and I can see me losing a lot of time to it.
next 2 DLC are available.
http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threa...-for-now-only)
nilfgaardian armour and elite crossbows
details of where to get them are in the link above.
and did you know, the DLC armour scales level, theres 2 sets of temerian armour and 2 nilfgaard. 2nd set shows up when you are level 30+
Got this last night, only played a couple of hours so far, very impressed with almost everything. However, there is one part that is extremely frustrating and making me reconsider my purchase - combat.
As it's such an integral part of the game, I need to overcome this, or find another way to play, or this game is doomed for me from the start.
With one enemy, everything is fine, I can handle his dodging, parrying, etc. Throw any more characters in to the fight, and I can't control him AT ALL. He flies all over the screen attacking random opponents, with no sense of order or direction to which I am facing. I know there's a "lock" for targeting (typical of a console port), but it again appears to target randomly and once set it doesn't seem to change.
So, if I press Z it locks on to a character in the middle of the pack, where Geralt will dive in to the middle of them and get owned, or I don't use Z and he dives about all over the place in an almost uncontrollable fashion.
Any advice? I didn't try my controller, but this type of game should be fine with a keyboard and mouse.
It is much better with a controller. But still doable without.
Personally I never lock, and yes, group battles are hard at the start. Make sure you dive out of the group repeatedly so that they don't surround you. Whale on a chap for a while then as others join in dive away again.
Movement is vital in this game's combat, which is actually a nice touch that reflects Geralt's style much better. Use Quen to give yourself a safety net until you get better at the timings for diving/dodging.
Eventually it will click and you'll start to feel that you're actually in control! But it takes a while, and there's one quest section that you'll get really annoyed with if you try it before you've mastered movement.
Using Yrden can help out in situations also as it is an area effect slow down. I have found (same on Witcher 2) is that once you get used to the combat it is like a dance of death, you will be moving between opponents getting a few hits in and then strike someone coming in and so on.
I hardly ever use the heavy attack unless enemies are spaced out and you have time to do one without getting hit, literally the fast attack can get you through most encounters.
OK, I'll give it more of a chance. Sounds like the combat is actually quite good the way you describe it.
It does take just a little to getting used to it, its not like say Assassins Creed where you can pull off everything with ease. I would definitely suggest trying a pad with it though, makes target acquisition so much easier.
It does take a little getting used to, but I found it easier with my xbox one pad over keyboard and mouse.
Have they sampled Agent as one of the NPC voices - I'm sure one of them has a Dudley accent ;)

Does it break save compatibility?
Ninja: Hopenot, GOG has already updated it!
Sounds like it's a very decent patch. Quite looking forward to the HUD related fixes too. Does make me think of I should hold off playing until some more patches. This seems fairly substantial though so hoping they have picked up most of the major bugs. Will have to get it later. All the other patches have been backwards compatible with saves on older versions so I'm sure they would keep in line with that.
Eep! :surprised:Quote:
Deploys the Bovine Defense Force Initiative.
the hud, can now change it to small size, so its about 1/4 of what is was. also disable npc names and damage numbers above heads.
text and number size is bigger in the inventory, so you an read stuff now if you are in high resolutions.
the saves still work, played about 4 hours since patch came out. seems to run smoother.
and I don't know whether its me being overly cautious with my 6 year old PC, but I can run this game perfectly well with everything in high settings even with hairworks on, but im playing in low/medium just because its an old PC.
one thing not mentioned anywhere in game, or in the guides - did you know that horses can jump.
just press spacebar when moving, works at any speed. may need to double tap it though.
you cant re-bind it unless you do .ini editing.
unsure of what key it is on a controller though.
_____________
as for my play through, I'm up to 110 hours game time now.
got 35 unexplored points in novigrad/velen map, barely touched on exploring in skellige. so still a little bit to go through. :)
It's the A button, same as for Geralt. I'm pretty sure the HUD sizes have been in the game for earlier as I've been switching between the two before 1.05.
Yes after all the initial furore regarding graphics and performance I've been really happy with how it runs, esp since AMD got crossfire working. It's genuinely the most organic looking open world of its type that I can remember. There is so much dynamic movement in trees and grass etc that it's wonderful to just turn off music and his and just wander about.
I'm going to get into it now, was waiting for the XP fix as I'll probably do all side missions before main quest ones so might be over levelled. Either way I think CDPR deserve some credit for just being consistent and churning out patches etc that seem to keep improving the game, rather than making it worse
Oh and for those inclined I'm running a reshade preset called 1000 times better and it's great. The colours are muted a bit more to remove the overly red hue and everything looks very natural without over use of bloom and contrast which seems to happen in most others. Worth a look on Witcher Nexus
well I guess its just me who didnt notice horse jumping then, or that the hud size was in 1.01 version :(
so much for me actually paying attention to a game for once.
Or you could say that you actually were playing the game whilst we were getting bogged down in the details ;)
Damn this a beautiful looking game, and the animations look really good. Hell even at low/medium settings the game still manages to look gorgeous.
Really sucks that it's having such a troubled release. Many people having crashing issues with it, including myself.
Also such a shame when a title has issues like this, even after a multiple patches.
Really de-motivates you from playing the game, because it makes it hard to invest hours playing if a bug can occur later after hours of play, which can effectively break any further progress. Namely the infamous "infinite loading screen" at the giant fight bug.
But were already up to v1.05 and it's only been 3 weeks since launch. So at least CDPR and pushing out patches regularly.
I have to say that for me at least, its been a relatively pain free experience, both performance and bug wise. I haven't experienced any crashes and no quest bugs yet either. Might be due to the fact that I haven't played that much of it yet though, and am still just pottering in the prologue area. Fingers crossed I don't end up encountering anything later on.
I did think this was a bit odd. Apparently it's because there was some money exploit in white orchard where you could farm the cows if you meditated an hour in between or something. If that happens a high level troll appears to give you something else to think about.
I'm very surprised by the low number of bugs, and equally by people reporting good performance. I have to have hairworks off and a couple of other things backed off to high (grass and NPCs iiirc) to get it playable. It seems to be very binary, knocking 90fps on high settings and about 35 with drops to 20 on ultra
Hairworks is by far the biggest drain in performance even with the AMD tesselation override in place. I can get it running ok with it all on but it makes it a touch chippy for my liking so I leave it off. Might experiment with it off a touch when I encounter more enemies that benefit from it.
Grass density is fine to ramp up but it's the foliage distance that is the next killer so I'd chuck to high and leave the rest to ultra. I have to to say that shadows is decent place to win back frames too as there really isn't that much perceptible difference between medium and ultra. NPCs is a max number which that can be shown and apparently it doesn't make much difference so try knocking the ones above off first.
this game doesn't end...
down to 6 unexplored points in velen, keep finding side quests on the points and on roads between them, some are only there if you've done other quests.
theres a few that are follow ups to quests I did in witcher 1, at least it seems like it.
110 points in skellige to go, majority out to sea. so need to find some unbroken boats. had fun smashing them into each other, so not many left :p
I've been doing the main quests and they just keep coming.
was that the last quest? no, theres another boss, that it? nope theres this bloke left. what about that sorceress? she wants a rabbit pie. why is there snow all over the place? oh theres still some more game.. and on and on and on..
even running game in high settings just because it works, may aswell enjoy it a bit more visually seem as the game will just keep going on and on and on. especially because they're adding more quests in DLC pack shortly.
now up to 122 hours 38 minute gametime, so if any of you are like me and just exploring, taking your time, but only playing an hour or two when you can. youll still be at it at Christmas.
My hard drive failed so I'm on an enforced break at the moment until the replacement arrives and I see if I can rebuild everything fully. Can't wait to get playing again.
I cant get over how gorgeous it looks!
seem to spend a lot of time just riding around gawping at the graphics :D
Not a big fan of the gwent stuff as I never really got into magic the gathering but I'll suffer it to complete the game :D
Me too. Love it. Finally made it out of the prologue area after actually getting some time to play and looking forward to properly getting into the open world.
Wasn't sure about Gwent but played a few and I think I'm starting to like it :)
Its a fun game but a bit disappointed for the map size, thought there would be more than eight areas to explore but I've just come across three. Everything is amazing and the fact that you can mod it is even better but JESUS CHRIST! Takes forever to gain exp or even level up :(
MAY BE A FEW VAGUE SPOILERS SO DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT THEM
current game only goes up to level 35, so there isn't much levelling. you get more skill points from 'places of power', its more about the way you fight the enemies, than being a higher level than them and 1 shotting them with bigger swords.
I was doing quests 6 levels higher with some dodge key, bomb throwing button mashing.
tip: can use liquid food type and solid food type at same time, so can have 2 vitality regens going at once ;)
last quest chain starts at 32 ish.
unpatched game cap is level 70 (its what the collectors game guide says ), but they've patched out any cap atall https://twitter.com/Marcin360/status/600953392954011649
theres rumours (someones looked into the game files) about a new game+ mode where the starter zone starts at level 40 ish. but that may be one of the DLCs.
if yours is taking forever to level up. the no xp bug is fixed in 1.05 patch, grey quests even give xp now.
although they did design it to take 80 hours for main quest + related side quests, 200+ hours if yu did everything. its just a matter of perception if you feel its taking forever.
theres way more quests than you need to get to level 30 ish, most quests are found exploring the ? areas on the map, use witcher senses to find the start points.
map size - twice size of GTA5, 4 times size of skryim and you are disappointed. not sure what to say on that.
I'm still finding new things in areas i've been through many many times.
the other areas that you visit - isle of mists, elf home, white frost town. you get there as part of the main quest. isle of mists is level 22 ish, have to do a few main quests in skellige to open it up, for example.
you can only get to these extra areas once however, so enjoy them while you are there. one of them you'll want to rush through very quickly though, unless you can hold your breath ;)
124 hours in, main quests are done, had end credits, bit of a lacklustre ending though. still got 2/3 skellige and revisit about 1/2 velen thoroughly to do. but that may wait until the expansion hits. the first expansion, well, expands parts of velen and oxenfurt, 2nd one adds another massive area to go to.
can carry on playing after the quest ends, game just dumps you back at home without access to any of the main characters.
decided how im going to do the replay. There's certain main characters from witcher 2 that need killing in witcher 2. mwahaha, want to see how they handle the story if those chars never made it into the game.
anywaysy, next 2 DLC are out.
fools gold - go to lurtch in velen.
more gwent cards - unsure how you get these.
Good to see it's getting good reception. Gonna have to pluck up the courage to play the game a bit more lol, but kind worried about the hard lock crash issues it's been having. Not sure, might wait for a few more patches to roll out before I start playing properly. Also good to see that galaxy users has be getting numbers on a par with steam, which is impressive. Here's hoping the galaxy client will succeed better than uplay & origin did.
IL haven't played it since day 1 on my PS4 with the performance issues. Waiting for the main issues to be sorted before I hit it hard so playing Bloodborne, Borderlands Pre Sequel and AC Unity
managed to find the only buyer of crossbow bolts in the entire game
the alchemist, in the church, north of the oxenfurt gate in novigrad. has 500 gold to buy stuff.
also decided to try it on ultra settings to see whether it'll work. and yes it does  22fps with hairworks on. latest 353.30 nvidia drivers, realtek sound drivers. (they affect fps too I've found) 1680x1050 res.
heres a handy video just because I also wanted to test shadowplay out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6RM...ature=youtu.be
as you can see, the alchemist is a little buggy, he's supposed to be there 6am - 6pm.
hope it helps.
fyi, it was a 232MB file, recorded at screen res, 20 Mbps at 30 fps.
Hes also the only merchant that will give you full price for your trophies :P
I haven't even started W3 yet. Wanted to run through W1 and W2 first to refresh my memory but damn it's taking a long time.
that just means you get value for money. ;)
my gameplay times were.
witcher 1 40 hours.
witcher 2 50 ish (the save I have is the autosave after loc muine, so cant check gametime)
witcher 3 125 hours
and with multiple ways to finish each game, that just adds even more replayability.
wither 3 for example, I went ahead and looked at the side quests on the wiki, theres about 1/3 of them I haven't even seen or found the start questgiver/location for. so my 2nd playthrough is going to be even longer.
probably looking at 300+ hours from start to finish, to explore and do everything.
I suppose so, also giving them time to resolve all the tech issues. First time I tried booting up W3 I was confronted by videos running at 16 fps T_T
Just finished it yesterday after 100 hours played. No spoilers but oh my god that is one of the best games I have ever played. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to buy it. The last third feels a bit rushed but not hugely and the fantastic gameplay and story for the first 2/3rds more than makes up for it.

Going to actually start playing this once this patch lands and the final bits of DLC are there!!
I have finished Bloodborne now and have Diablo 3 (Ultimate Evil Edition) arriving today for my birthday
Patch 1.07 has now been released
Are you downloading straight from the GOG website, or using their client? Twitter is awash with people with issues with the latter.
yey!
on a side note, if you ever want to reinstall windows due to various accumulated problems associated with a 5 year old windows install, then reinstalling witcher 3 is relatively easy. as long as you still have the witcher 3 installed directory.
just reinstall galaxy,
log in,
go to settings and point the 'install game to..' option at where the gog games were installed.
then click on witcher 3 in your library and the install button.
it finds the game already there and just goes through the file verify check. 5 minutes (might be faster on newer computer and SSD) later and job done, fully working witcher 3.
also found out Steam is similar. just point the 'steam library folders' in the options to where the steam directory is, and it automatically finds all previously installed games.
so to backup you just copy the entire directory where the game is installed, aswell as the save folder in 'my documents' then restore when needed.
just some info that you might want to know
yeah.. the cdpr forums have people complaining too. the gog servers are having problems.
galaxy hasn't updated for me, been sat watching it for 10 minutes.
just started the download from gog.com though. all 2.1GB of it
edit2:
2.1GB when downloaded using gog downloader.
needs 7GB of space to install it.
Alrighty! Download is blazing this morning. All 7.5gb worth...
Download should be 2.1Gb, but it's about 7Gb once unpacked.
