    MSFS 2020 on a 1060 6GB?

The game's on sale.. but I'm still on a 1060 6GB. Think it's a fools errand to try and run at 1440p or is it worth a shot?

I only played it at launch and performance has improved I'm lead to believe. Depending what FPS you want to achieve, but I'd say 30fps is absolutely fine, then at 1440p you'll probably be looking at medium settings at 30-40 fps. Defintely do-able as long as you're not aiming for ultra/high.

Medium settings still looks superb so it's not a big issue.

You will be fine and there is a resolution scaler as well IIRC so at least you can get a clear UI even if it means a slight hit to visual fidelity.

Might be worth taking a look at that as well about which settings you can turn down low without much loss.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: MSFS 2020 on a 1060 6GB?

You guys were right. It's absolutely fine these days on a 1060.

There are bugs a plenty (I can't bring up control list while flying for example, it just says 'no entries') but once you've wrestled past the UI there is a gorgeous game in there. I guess they've worked on the loading times as it's fine using an SSD - Slightly long on initial game load but pretty snappy thereafter.

I tried lots of different settings, and it only made clear that I really don't know what I'm doing as the game looks horrible with my typical settings (eg no AA because I don't like blurry textures, but TAA is essential in this game to hide the dithering). Eurogamer suggest just sticking it on high with 90% res scaling at 1440p and they're not wrong, it's smooth like that (don't know the framerate, but would appear to be around 30-40 given it's syncing fine with my monitor which has LFC). I've since bumped terrain detail to 150 and texture resolution to ultra while dropping some others to medium and it's still smooth. I can just about make out the drop in resolution when looking at certain angles of buildings, but it's worth it for the framerate/increased detail elsewhere.

I believe there is still an expected performance uplift with the incoming DX12 update?

Yeah we'll see. DX12 doesn't give more performance per se, it just allows devs to program closer to the hardware so if they put in the effort they can make it more performant than leaving it to be handled by the driver model. I'm sure it'll be better for CPU limited scenarios though (which is not as much of a limitation for me compared to GPU limited), especially command lists.

    Re: MSFS 2020 on a 1060 6GB?

Just seen this thread. I’m happily running MSFS 2020 on a GTX 1070 at 1440p. I get 25-30 FPS most of the time. Graphics settings are mostly high.

So, it may run on a 1060 with fairly moderate settings, more likely at 1080p though.

ThE DX12 option is in Beta at the moment and performance is worse than using DX11.

I'm not even sure if it's worth asking, but I might as well. What are we thinking in terms of the 1060 3GB version? Assuming a target of 1080p. 3 gigs of VRAM definitely isn't enough in today's age, but would the game at least be playable?
