Does WoW have any trials, or xxx days free?

Well, Seriously considering trying wow, but wondering whether there is a downloadable trial like EQ, or whether you get a certain number of days free when you buy it?

Dont much fancy having to pay £30+ for the game, then another £xx monthly ontop, all in 1 go (how much is the monthly sub btw?)

Anyone know cheapest place to buy WoW? Play.com do it for £29.99 delivered, dunno about anywhere else...

If you know anybody buying the new boxes, I think they come with a 10 day trial. Otherwise, you get the one month free (well, it's not really free... ) when you buy the game.

Not quite sure what you mean mike.

Whats the diff between "new boxes" and "old boxes"? 10 day trial vs 1 month free?

    Anyone care to explain? lol

Whenever you buy a box, you get a month included. The first set of boxes sent out in the UK just had the one month. Blizzard has now sent out a second lot of boxes, which include the one month, as well as a 10 day trial period for a friend.

    Ahh right, Bonus!

Any idea on cheapest place to buy?

Also, is it possible to DL the patches beforehand, or do you have to use the launcher to get the patches, like Planetside and EQ etc.. ?

And 1 last thing, is DSL / Cable required to play, or does it play ok on narrowband (ISDN)?

Patches can be downloaded before hand - check most gamefile websites and there are links in these forums.
ISDN would be fine for it - it's designed to run on speeds as low as 56k and works quite well on dial up.
Cheapest place to buy would be Powerplaydirect at £21.95

    Well Looks good.

Was kinda hoping to get playing over the weekend, but that would mean going out and spending an extra £10 - £15 to buy the game off the shelf and I dunno if I wanna be doing that.

    *Edit*

I also meant to ask, the 10day trial, whats the deal with it? If I buy the game and install it on my mates system too, giving him the 10 day free trial, does his account die afterwards, or can he choose to renew it?

He he would be able to carry it on i'm sure, but i doon't know if it would require only a subscription, or if he would need to also need buy the game.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

One would think he'd have to buy the game in full as each one comes with a serial, and that is what you create your account from. I don't know how trials work, perhaps he plays free for 10 days then needs to input a unique serial to link it to his account and release his chars he worked on.

If he wants to play after the 10 day period he will need to buy the game for the subscription code. Otherwise he won't be able to create an account. I don't know how it works, whether the "demo" comes with a temp account and when you key in the new subs code it allows you to carry on. Just guessing outloud.

    Edit: beaten to it.

Taken from a Blizzard Press release.

As part of a new initiative, players will find a 10 day Guest Pass in each of these 250,000 boxes, which will allow them to invite a friend to play World of Warcraft with them on a 10 day free trial. At the end of the trial period, the guest will be able to continue playing with his existing character by purchasing a retail copy of the game.

The original collector's edition also came with a trial. I gave mine to a friend almost immediately though - it works as decribed above. IIRC you still get the free month with your retail copy, so you effectively get 1 month and 10 days free.
