I shoot tele-stuff with a 100-400L and only have another lens for everything else: the 17-55 f2.8. As you can tell from that, I'm just an enthusiast who's done a few weddings for friends and friends of friends - and I love wildlife.

So, you have both, the 40D and the 5D2? I've got one burning question if you do: where do you most notice the full-frame difference? Only landscape or can you actually tell the difference in portraits or tele-zoom shots? I never had the chance to test full-frame, just reading and looking at jpg's.
What about plasticity of the shots? Does that improve and does it come closer to the 1D?

...and againg sorry for having stopped talking about tripods! I love my Gitzo and soon I'll get my reallyrightstuff ballhead! :-)
which focus point/s are you using? you'll probably find an increased accuracy when shooting centre only

not my 5D2's i just use them ive used them with 70-200 2.8 IS (IS off, hate the bloody thing) and the 24-70 2.8

the images that come out are awesome, i happily shoot speeches ISO3200-5000 without flash

i prefer the crop sensor to FF, my shooting style is such that i like the extra reach i get using the same glass.. if i had a choice id shoot the speeches with 40's instead of the 5's because i can stand at the back of the room instead of the middle.. i think i could live with the 1.3 crop on the MKIII for sniping and a 1Ds for portraits..

Oh, excellent! Thanks for starting a new thread with this quote! I must learn how to do this!

Yeah, I use centre-focusing exclusively with all my shots, I never really liked anything else, makes everything just that much more predictable and precise. Especially with any lens below f2.8 when the super accurate cross-sensor starts measuring.

You saying that you use the 70-200 on your 5D2 makes me think more and more about that brilliant lens as an all-round lens for the 5D2. I think I'm gonna hold off with the 5D2 for now but when I will go full-frame then maybe with that lens...I love that lens, seen so many great shots from it and heard so many good things about it...

That noise behaviour of the 5D2 is impressive! That alone would be worth the purchase. Is it really that much better than in the 40D? I get great flashless shots with anything up to ISO800, maybe up to 1000 but after that I need to get serious with these shots in Imagenomic's Noiseware. Would be great if that would be needed less with a 5D2.

Yeah, the cropped MkIII, I never really considered it but I also do love the reach I get with it on my 40D...hmm...

    Re: Canon DSLR talk

oh dont get me wrong, ill happily shoot ISO3200 with the 40..

only noise reduction is done in C1

but the difference between the 40's 3200 and the 5D2's 3200 is night and day..

nice shots, all at 3200 with the 40D? Wow! What's C1? Photoshop?

But if it's really a night and day difference between the 40D and the 5D2 then that gets me all tempted again...AHHH!

    Re: Canon DSLR talk

I agree the noise handling of the 5D mark ii is amazing! I can go up to ISO6400 without worries, whereas my 400D at ISO800 need some form of noise reduction to get similar results!
Although something to be weary of is that although you'll get roughly 2 stops better ISO improvement from going up the 5D from the 40D you'll lose approx 1 stop in DOF.
I.E- for group shots I'll shoot F5.6 on the 400d but to get the same depth of focus I have to shoot F8 or so.
    * Canon 5D Mark ii * 24-105L * 2 x 580Ex ii * 85mm f1.8 * For sale = Canon EOS 400D * 100mm f2.8 macro * 10-22mm * 17-55mm IS f2.8 * 70-300mm IS * speedlite 420EX *

It would be nice if someone posted a 100% zoom so we can see how much noise there is. The 5DmkII looks amazing though!

you loose or gain 0 DoF
