Macro lens for Nikon D70s ?

Ive always wanted to do macro photography ( partly due to my physical limitation ) and just because I love how it changes your perception of what appears ordinary.

I figure that some of the prices for macro lenses must of dropped in the 4 yrs since I bought this camera off ebay , so I was just curious if any one here had any recommendations that might keep things in £100 - 150 range I could perhaps find on somewhere like ebay ?

    thanks,

    m

Interesting thought I think lens prices have generally increased as our currency has weakened, so because they cost more new, they cost more second hand as well.

A Tamron 90 di is good value for money IMHO, but hard to find in budget at the moment. Others will probably be even more.

one thing to watch for is new nikon lens could become scarce due to the thailand floods - although you are buying second-hand this could push up your prices.

I havn't used this place and it is just outside your price range but I think these are ex-police so probably unused:

    http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/use...-f/2.8d-micro/

If you are just starting out you might wish to play with close-up filters - about a tenner for a set - one other thing is you will need decent light as you willbe using small apertures to give some useable depth of field so you might wish to look at off camera flash options.

    What about using a 28 or 50 mm with a Br-2a ?

Someone suggested reversing my current lens , but I was bit leary of it at the time can you really get that sort of quality though with such a cheap adapter ?

Get hold of an old manual focus Micro-Nikkor?? They are extremely sharp lenses.

Yes, I have some models / scenes I wanted to capture , so I was planning to look into this any way ,as I wanted to try doing some in darker conditions with shadows.

The internal mechanical components might have worn out or need lubrication.

The lens you linked to is autofocus, however the ones I were talking about are the older manual focus ones like the following:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NIKON-Micr...item3cbd8b2477

IIRC,the lens will work fine with your D70s. However, there is no metering and no autofocus AFAIK. Funnily I use the 105MM lens via a simple adaptor with my Sony A200 and it meters in central weighted mode and I get focus confirmation. The lens is very sharp and it was even the case with my old Nikon film SLR.

Re: Macro lens for Nikon D70s ?

I have been using Tokina 100mm f2.8 for quite a long time... and have found it pretty sharp and fast.
But for the dough you are looking to spend, you can get a set of AF Extension tubes (ex. Kenko).
They retail about 100-120 quids and can give you the required magnification at the expense of light loss.

These are better than the Kenko Extension Tubes and less than half the price.
