    Re: Pentax K30 previews

My first camera was a K-x which I got in Feb 2010. Moved on to a K-5 in March last year when I realised how much I enjoyed it and there were some features the K-x was lacking. I wish I'd kept it as a backup. I got a secondhand K20D before my last trip away to use as a backup. Think I've taken 10 pictures with it. The plan is to convert it to IR.

That is even more amazing!! You only had a dSLR for just over two years?? Were you a film shooter beforehand??

I never knew Ricoh is a Fortune500 company(!) with over $20 billion of revenue:

I initially had some concerns about Pentax being bought by Ricoh, but they seem to have enough money to drive the business forward like Hoya did.

    Re: Pentax K30 previews

I had a little compact the same as everyone else which I used when I was out hiking or whatever.

I've taken a lot of photographs in the last couple of years.

Some of the prosumer compacts are not bad either from experience too.

    Re: Pentax K30 previews

No point rushing to do that with the K30 incoming, it's price will be a lot less in 6 months!

The 16-50mm is a great lens, I love mine to bits, but I'm 6"4. At 100kg, I don't care about the weight, a girlfriend of mine however does and its funny because I can see the frustration in her eyes when she decides she is going to use it for a long walk think 15km.

Also budget for a nice B+W CPL

I went for a Marumi which seems to do as well as the B+W in this test:

    But much cheaper!

    Re: Pentax K30 previews

You got a point - plus if the K5 is replaced there might be some good deals. I just feel I do need to move onto something more modern, just for the sake of convenience(less lenses with faster focusing),and things like MLU,live view and a pentaprism which would be really useful for me as would be better performance in low light(focusing and noise too).

My lenses are sharp since but they are from my old film system and hence even the focal lengths are neither here nor there and have slow focusing.

For instance I had a 24-105MM on my film setup which was a fantastic jack of all trades lens, but on a digital the crop makes it look more like a 36-160MM!

Even my 17-35MM is a weird 25.5MM to 53MM effective crop too. A 16-50MM would be like a 24-75MM lens which is great range from wide angle down to a portrait length.

I had a glance over at the OcUK thread again - it seems someone agreed with me and then the same chaps jumped on him.

    It's amazing.

Pentax have a very large following in the medium format range, doesn't he know this?

Or is medium format not 'professional'? Only 35mm are true Scotsman....
