It will cost around £2000 and uses a D7000 derived AF system it seems.

cant sync flash above 1/250 - utter crap
Nikon seem to have done an Apple, released a Lemon..
heard people are considering ditching and moving to Canon (5D3) because of this release - they've been waiting and waiting for the 700 successor, only to be fed that!

UK pricing for the D600 is a joke:
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikon-d600/2
RRP is around £1300 in the US and around £2000 in the UK. So even with 20% VAT, we are paying over £400 more.
Nikon PR: The firm stresses that ‘affordability' is key and has priced the camera at £1,955.99, body only.

In terms of what the sensor is capable of, it scores highly here at DxO. Personally, it looks like a very capable shooter, possibly hobbled by poor implementation.
Had a play with the D600 today. It's quite a nice camera to hold and use. The AF system is pretty nice and I liked it's quick and accurate operation. I've not used Nikon cameras so much, so the menu system was a little confusing for me (plus it's in Japanese ). It's not as "bulky" as the D800E, so it feels quite compact. Both cameras had the battery/vertical grip. Picture wise, the D600 produced some nice photos with punchy colours. I like the result, but with no memory card all I got was the review picture...
Button placement felt a little odd to me. The buttons for ISO and WB are so far to the left, that I have to take my eye from the viewfinder to press the button and adjust the values. The exposure compensation is nicely placed though.
I did notice one oddity. When I was changing the exposure compensation, the value bar in the OVF was partially obscured when I moved it past a certain value. As the little bars move left to right, something black moved from right to left obscuring how much I've adjusted from 0. Not a big thing as there is a number on the far right. I just found it weird that both D600s in the shop did that.
Great camera to use....It has good picture quality when the snaps are viewed.
