Cheap cheap!
Bearing in mind my only lens around that sort of focal length is the plastic-fantastic Nikkor 28-80, i'm just explaining why I chose the 50 over the 105 (Oh yeah, and it was cheaper )

Bugger, bugger, arse, bugger, buggerit. Just been outbid AGAIN on broken lens, need a Nikon AF prime (prefer a 50mm f1.8) thats optically buggered. All I want is the mount, baffles, cpu and aperature ring for a little project Keep your eyes peeled for me.
PS I have the a nikon 50mm f1.8 (no macro),very happy with it, was £50ish.
hehe, yeah, my 50mm is the often termed 'nifty 50' cause its plastic through and through but awesome for the money, its f/1.8 which is great. despite not having all the usm stuff its still very fast to AF

Ok, I've had a chance to breath...
right, let me tell you how I eventually got my 20D...
I went to jessops I'd reserved my body only 20D at having seen it the day before, and when it got placed on the counter I proceded to check for dodgy pixels and dust (I came prepared with my 'nifty 50'). there wasn't a computer screen handy to check for pixels accurately so I did the dust test...BIG mistake. it looks as though the thing had been dragged through the mud!!! so, off the assistant went to check another body (stole it from a kit box as they had no b/o boxes left) and went through the same procedure - rather I skipped the pixles and went straight to dust...big blobs again! so I went through 4 bodies - all the shop had in stock - and EACH ONE had blotches that could not be shifted with even one of those rocket blower things... eventually after at least, if not more than, an hour or so I gave up. poor girl was extremely helpful and patient, she was as baffled as I at how much unshiftable dirt there was, and I wasn't prepared to have someone squirting stuff on the sensor of a brand new camera on day/hour/minute one...so I said I'd go check the other jessops up in cribbs causeway (all other town stores only had display models [read: touched by a thousand unclean hands, the prospect of more than just dust on a sensor did not appeal]
cribbs causeway is a shopping 'precinct' just north of bristol. basically one of those massive shooping places with a cinema tacked on the side, has a currys, jjb, b&q...you know those sort of places. as well as massive john lewis and M&S and what they call 'the mall'...
so with my best rugby attitude I faced the mall to find the jessops in there. they'd held one box to the side for me so I proceded with my dust/pixel check. checked out fine first try! so, although I didn't buy and then return does this count as 20D no5?
then it was time to get memory...
"one gig of ultra II please"
"yes, thats 89.99"
"um, no its not"
"er, yes it is..."
"no. its £60 everywhere else. see..." [fresh copy of AP thrust into face of manager who was standing near by]
"we don't price match on-line shops"
"this is a shop in swindon who also, like you, serve online customers. and 'cameras2u' have this card for less as well."
*dramatic pause, and much astounded gaping*
"ok we can do that for £59.99"
[yipeeee!]
"great, thanks"
so I got that one at a good price too. the girl who was serving me was also very patient, poor thing only been working there for a couple of weeks, dread to think what would have happend if i'd found a load of dust on this body! she'd never heard of anyone doing what I did (which just goes to show you really doesn't it), i think the chemicals in the processing room at the back had got to her as well, said thats where she normally works but came out to shop floor for the busy weekend.
so, I came away with my 20D and 1G card...but it took a whole day to do it! what the hell's been going on at canon QC?!!!
now I have to figure out how to make it all tick!

A few things...
The Jessops Rocket blower. I live by mine, and wear it around my neck (it has loop holes for string). With a dSLR dust is a nightmare, and they generally do a really good job of shifting it. Lord knows what was on the 20D's you tested :s... but test the blower before you buy it! I know this sounds ridiculous for something that costs a fiver, but there were a few dodgy batches of them... That blew very fine particles of rubber dust! Obviously this just makes things a thousand times worse when trying to clean lenses / sensors.... So test it out on some clean glass and check...
The Ultra II 1GB is an awesome card, well worth the money (IMO). I don't even shoot actiony stuff, but the difference between it and my Lexar (not even a particularly slow card) is huge. Only when shooting RAW though... But hey, who shoots anything else? I got mine for a nifty £35 new... Ebay = win
Just to reiterate, we want pics!

Y'know, I don't think you really have a 20D at all... All just one big ruse
