Dell PC Starts for 5 seconds every 12 minutes

Hi this is my first post so apologies if it is in the wrong place.

I have a dell Optiplex 755. When it is completely shut down after about 12 minutes the power light lights up the hard drive starts and the fan spins for a second then it turns off again (this is the same thing it does when you first plug it into the mains). It then does this every 12 minutes. I now have to switch it off at the mains after I have shut it down as it doe this 5 times an hour, and I am worried it will eventually where out the hard drive etc.

    Thanks in advance

No worries about wearing out the hard drive - it can take much worse than that. However it does sound like something isn't quite right, like the network card is querying something perhaps. Dell have very good support so I'd check with them first off, but my suggestion would be to check with Dell for a later BIOS version. And of course, you should be turning your computer off at the mains anyway to save energy

    Thanks for your swift response.

I have tried with dell and they are still looking into it. I have removed all external devices and it still did it. I also removed the hard drives, and dvd drive one by one. I even plugged it in elsewhere (in case it was magnetic field from other electrical devices). I have also checked the Bios power management settings and they are all off. I've also updated to the latest Bios as well. I've also done a complete system test. Does seem really strange.

    thanks

Sounds like bad earthing, faulty motherboard or PSU.
