    15" QHD Laptops?

It is about time to buy a new laptop, my Medions getting on for 3 years old and showing it's age for my uses.

It is still a good laptop, 2nd gen i5, 8gb RAM 2nd HDD fitted in the form of an SSD so boot times are good, it also has Nvidia Optimus so it is ok for light gaming and great for Photoshop.

Due to this the new specs I am looking for are 15"+, 16gb Ram, I7, SSD, QHD 3200x1800 touch screen with Gorilla glass.

So far I have been looking at the new Dell XPS as it seems a damn good machine but rather expensive...

Toshiba do not seem to get close enough on the spec, a big shame as I am Toshiba certified to repair them.

    Any ideas ?

MSI have a QHD laptop I think, not sure if it's touchscreen. If I had that sort of money to spend on a laptop it'd be a Macbook with retina. It's a shame that you want the touchscreen.

    Re: 15" QHD Laptops?

The Sony Vaio Fip 15 has an option for a high res screen (not quite 3200x1800...2880x1620 I believe). I have the 15" with the standard Full HD display. It's a nice machine but won't be to the build quality of the dell. Still it does have the benefit of 15" tablet mode and presentation mode / screen flip.

Ok so I've just specified your list:

    Intel® CoreTM i7-4500U 1.8 GHz
    Windows 8
    256Gb SSD
    16Gb DDR3 (1600)
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 735M 1 GB
    39.5 cm (15.5") VAIO Display (2880x1620 pixels) (16:9)

    Comes to £1589.00

For reference you can upgrade the RAM yourself (see my thread a few items below in this forum, specified with 4Gb as supplied this saves £110). You can also potentially upgrade the hard drive. Specified with a 500Gb SSHD (8Gb SSD) this saves £160

So you can potentially knock £270 off that price if you are willing to upgrade the RAM and hard drive yourself.

Long time mac hater, fixed enough of the damn things to know the true quality is on par with unbranded stuff. I would not pay for the name then stick windows on.

Thanks, I love Sony, well the Camera range, Laptop wise they do stick a fair bit on for the Logo, end of the day that dell would probably work out about £1500 after I tell phone sales I am going to look at my options and get the famous Dell return call offering discount. That specs not bad for the price but the video cards not as good as the dell, I will put it on the list though

    Re: 15" QHD Laptops?

Dell phoned, £130 off the top of the range and £100 off the next one down.

Never mentioned matching Sony's free 4 year warranty though!

Ironically I have signed up to the Dell VIP scheme, you sign up as an Employee (any company when it asks) and the signup email contains 2 10% off single use codes against any product.

So I can get more off than they can offer!

I need to get through to Dell sales in Ireland as I am after free extended warranty as Sony are doing 4 years free at the moment!

15% code came through, order placed and now I may have to wait until March to get my hands on it
