Question Help to find a PSU ?

I just been trying to read up on PSU's so i can buy a new replacement which is a Thermaltake TR2 550w (W0101).

My budget is up to £65 !

My head is hurting from trying to read up all the specs on these things and then after reading this http://forums.hexus.net/psus/256893-...su-design.html my brain popped

    Many thanks folks

Re: Help to find a PSU ?

    What are your requirements?
    i.e. wattage? Connections?

For a single graphics card, i'd recommend:
    This: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/450w-...n-atx-v231-psu
    Or this: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-...12v-fan-atx-v2

Quick note on the 450W version - It only has 1 x 6+2-pin PCI-E (does not have an additional 6-pin as advertised) - this caught me out but was fixed with the purchase of a £2 adapter...

Re: Help to find a PSU ?

don't worry about single vs multi rail. I actually prefer single rail - so long as it's a decent PSU to start with.

Look for Gold or better efficiency, an audible noise profile that is flat and doesn't ramp up at x% of total load (visit manufacturer's websites to find it), good low electrical noise and minimal ripple.

Oh and don't go for more watts than you need.

on your budget you prob won't want the modular ones available. I'd go for this:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-...an-atx-v23-psu
it's not quite gold efficiency, but it is a good (non modular) unit

manufacturer actually CWT (good), but resold as Enermax http://www.enermax.co.uk/naxn

    In depth review here: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...Review/1426/11

or if you can up the budget, this is what I'd really go for: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-...an-atx-v22-psu

Re: Help to find a PSU ?

The 450W was a clear choice for me. At £35-ish is 80+ bronze, its a Seasonic OEM (so you know its built like a tank) and has braided cables. It also has 34A (408W) on the 12V rail, which means it has power in the right places for a power-hungry CPU and most GPUs (even 2 low-ish power GPUs).

Assuming your system specs are up to date, you'll wont have the same (lack of PCI-E connector) problem I had.

Going back to what ik9000 said, if you have the money go for a PSU with 80+ gold, theyre 90-95% efficient (about 10% more than a bronze). So a little investment will pay back with cheaper electric bills.

Keep in mind that XFX has notoriously bad customer service if things go wrong. I'd go with another brand, even if the OEM model is ultimately the same.
