    Question 2x HD7870 and FX8350 OC'ed to 4.7GHz 850W Enough?

    Here is my friend's system:

    AMD FX X8 8350
    MSI 990FXA-GD80 AM3+
    XFX HD7870
    XFX HD7870
    CORSAIR CARBIDE 200R MidT ATX
    COOLER MASTER RS-850 SILENT PRO M 80PLUS 850W
    GSKILL 16GB (2x8GB) RipjawsX DDR3 1866MHz CL10 1,5V
    ASUS 21.5" VS228H
    SEAGATE 3.5" 2TB Barracuda Sata 3.0 64MB Cache 7200Rpm
    CORSAIR HYDRO SERISI™ H80I
    OCZ 128GB Vertex 4

The system will be overclocked to 4.7GHz. Speedstep will be used and downclock the CPU when idle. My question is would the 850W + 80 Plus be enough for 2x HD7870 and the overclocked system at full load?

    Thanks.

A good 850W supply would be plenty. I wouldn't go for a cooler master unit in general though, unless you have specific reviews showing that model is something good.

I heard that before but I want a modular one. The others cost more. Would it really matter, it's 80 plus after all? I've been using Cooler Master all my life and no problems had. If I could find Antec, XFX or Seasonic, I would go for them, but in my country, they are really rare. And like %30 more for the cost.

80 plus means nothing at all relevant to quality, but if someone has checked it out as per Cat's review, then it should be fine.

    Is this a better site?

    Or this?

It looks to me like they have some units cheaper, but I don't speak/read that language, so don't know.

IMO it might be more worthwhile going for a really good 750W PSU vs a medium 850W PSU (which the Cooler Master Silent Pro M850 is). For example the Seasonic X-750 or the Corsair HX750.

The CM got the gold award from Hardware Secrets and they are meant to be one of the best PSU review sites too.

So you disagree that a unit like the Seasonic X-750 (SS-750KM) or the Corsair HX750 Gold (CP-9020031 / 75-001218) would be better?
