Question New PSU for GPU upgrade?

    Hi Folks,

I will upgrade my GPU to a 3080 (not sure if Ti or not yet). From reading around, it appears my PSU which is quite old, won't be up to the task.

    My current specs are below:

    Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 Wi-Fi

    CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X

    Memory: Patriot 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz

    Storage: 256 Crucial MX100 +Kingston 256GB SSD and 500GB Samsung F3

Graphics card(s): Palit nVidia 1070Ti Rockgamer

PSU: OCZ OCZ-ZT750W-UK 750W modular PSU

As such, I will need a new PSU. Scan have the EVGA SuperNOVA 850W G6 80+ Gold for £89.99. Is this good? Or is there better available for similar money available?

    Thanks folks.

Re: New PSU for GPU upgrade?

I don't know if that's a Seasonic unit or not, but I do have a cople of general thoughts.

Firstly, even if it is made for EVGA by Seasonic, it doesn't necessarily mean it's made with identical components to the equivalent Seasonic. Maybe it is, but maybe not.

That said, while Seasonic do have an extremely good reputation for PSUs, and they're my personal choice these days, EVGA have a pretty good rep too. So yeah, I'd expect it t be pretty good, too.

My only real question would be what the price difference between the two is, and whether there's any difference in warranty and/or customer service to account for it?

Personally, I'm kinda naturally a bit cynical (no really, despite te sunny disposition ) and, these days at least, not hugely price sensitive so I tend to just go for what I've had good experiences with, which would be Seasonic, or a bit further back, Delta and Enermax. I certainly don't believe in cheaping out on PSUs EVER, but I certainly don't regard EVGA as cheaping out. I wouldn't, frankly, be at all surprised to find it is identical internally. I wouldn't expect any issues with that, but for peace of mind reasons, I just stick to what's previously served me well ... and avoid companies that have bitten me.
